Recovering from Hurricane Irma

Dixie Lee Henckel, my mother-in-law, and Kristi Hutton, my sister-in-law, have lived in Big Pine Key for 17 years. Home, for them, was in the Avenues. My husband and I fell in love right here on Avenue E at my mother-in-law's home that no longer stands, as Hurricane Irma rolled through this neighborhood and literally ripped homes off the face of the earth. Thankfully, both my mother-in-law and sister-in-law are safe, but they lost everything--literally EVERYTHING. Since their homes were not on stilts, they did not have insurance, for it is extremely expensive to insure non-stilt homes in The Keys. Unlike Dixie's home, Kristi's home is still standing, but the cost for repairs is unknown at this time if even repairable. They are now having to make tough decisions about how to move forward and recover from Irma's devastation.

Neither of them have been home to see the reality of the destruction yet. Everything we know about their homes has been through social media and newscast videos. They are in the process of purchasing an RV to call home for now and will be headed to BPK soon.

Although my husband Karter Krueger will be leaving Alabama as soon as he is allowed into BPK to help his mother and his sister clean up their properties and possibly repair damage to Kristi's home, we are trying to raise money to help them get back on their feet as they begin the long, restorative journey.

Only Jesus can fill the hole that is left in the hearts of so many who are experiencing loss from recent hurricanes, but we can fill their hands with motivation to move forward. Dixie and Kristi are givers--their hearts are GOLDEN. They usually help others extravagantly, but now they need our help.  They need money for basics--food, clothing, shelter.
