Iris Ponce was one of the bravest souls you could ever meet. She was smart, energetic, and fearless from a very young age. She spend the earlier years of her life with her single mother and brother (Daniel). Iris's mother was ripped away from her arms by immigration at the early age of 5. This was extremely traumatizing for both Iris and Daniel.
Iris was able to visit her mother in El Salvador during her early teenage years. Unfortunately when Iris returned, she fell into the U.S. Foster care system in Virginia, away from her brother Daniel and rest of the family and friends she had left.
Iris turned 19 earlier this year. She was a strong independent woman, working hard to succeed in life. She was working even during these difficult pandemic times in order to make ends meet. She had recently moved out on her own, and was hoping to come back to the Seattle and be reunited with Daniel. She was also putting herself through school to follow her dreams.
Unfortunately, she will no longer be able to accomplish her goals and dreams. Someone took her young life away this weekend, shattering the hearts of all those that knew and loved her. Iris was murdered in Reston, Virginia. The shooter is unknown at the time.
There is no family nor relatives in Virginia, therefore are goal is to be able to bring her to Seattle and hold her memorial services here. There are a lot of steps and expenses in order to make this possible and cannot do it alone. All help received will go towards covering the expenses incurred to bringing Iris's remains home and the funeral/memorial services. Some of these expenses include Funeral Home in Virginia, Funeral Home in Washington State, Transportation costs, Cemetery location, and other miscellaneous expenses.
