DEC 31st update:
There is no greater feeling than that of complete happiness and joy after making a decision, not knowing of its full outcome still, but seeing it unfold even better than what you hoped for.
After much going back and forth, not knowing if it would be a smart decision at the time, I can surely say I've never been happier with such a life deciding fork road in my life. Some of you know I've been struggling to find my identity as a musician for a couple of years and finding the department within my culture that makes me continuosly fall in love with the process of creativity. And I can comfortably say, this is where I fit in.
I was so overwhelmed with the first day of classes (in a good way), that I came back and did what I do best.
Starting at Berklee College of Music, Spain: Master's in Scoring for Film, TV, and Video Games.
Since day 1, our professors have pushed us to the limit, testing our full capacity while keeping the most important factor on the forfront; meeting the deadline. I've been composing, editing, recording, producing and music'ing literally on a daily basis, knowing that this is what it takes in order to prove to myself of such qualifications. Being in a world that revolves around such talent found at the Berklee Valencia campus is overwhelming to say the least. The student body somehow breathes motivation and drive into you as you walk the hallways, aspiring you to do even more than the day before.
My first session of the semester in a remote control production where I coordinated with the Budapest Recording Orchestra via Video Conference and still get my musical ideas across. I cannot thank my mentor enough; Lucio godoy (to my right), for all his dedication in seeing us succeed and to be extremely prepared for this career.
Being a 12 month program, it really gives me the opportunity to give it all I have, 8 days a week, 10am-2am. I'd be a fool to not take complete advantage of everything the school and the program have to offer at any given time. So many resources available at any given time. Everything from state of the art recording studios, to sequencing labs, to rehearsal rooms available even during the holidays, and the best one for the creative minds, a full arsenal of musical equipments available at any time for when your creativity strikes. "I think this song needs a steal string guitar. Scratch that, make it nylon. Let me add some shaker, or maybe a tambourine." Or perhaps adding a string quartet to your weekly project..., no problem, plenty of talented individuals that make the whole school work as one. Combine that with state of the art microphone collection, this campus is perfect for someone who values music tech and creativity.
Getting real life experience in composing, producing and working together with a string quartet! Definitely one for the books!
As stated before , my schedule consists of classes from 10am-7pm. Then, class assignments and projects from 7-10pm in the studios and labs. Then I work as a Graduate Assistant, supervising the recording studios from 10pm-2am, 3 nights a week. This is the part I wish I didn't have to do. Because it's 65 hours a month I'm taking away from my studies, that could be used on furthering my projects, assignments, and personal portfolio. But every dollar counts when paying this tuition. And at the end of th night*, helping my fellow classmates within their recording needs does add to my oveall experience at Berklee..., I'm very greatful to have the opportunity.
The other 4 nights are spent from 7pm-2am in the labs. And on the weekends, from open to close; 12pm-2am. This might be a bit overload to some of you reading, but to the others that know me, this is who I am. When ever possible, I submerge myself with technology, music, creativity and helping others. It's who I am.
And I feel completely blessed and fortunate that I get to achieve my Master's in such environment with such resources. Attached, I have included some of the works I have done, hoping that somehow it resonates with you.
Please consider donating anything possible to help me reduce the cost of my Master's Degree.
Even if its $5, $10, or $20, anything counts. Also, please share this story with as many people as you can. It will hopefully resonate with them as well.
Your contributions will help offset my Tuition Cost.
I have included some sample works at the bottom so you can hear some of my progress. Thank you ALL for visiting!
