Ruca was diagnosed with a torn cruciate ligament (ACL) in her knee. She has undergone a successful TTA procedure that will eventually allow her to play and run again without lameness. The procedure involved cutting a section of her tibia in order to stabilize it with plates and screws to her femur. She also had a lipoma tumor removed on the same leg that we are having biopsied. Frankenstein\'s got nothing on Ruca T.
We are now at a crucial point in her recovery. She is currently on several medications and a Fentanyl patch that will last the next five days. She is least agitated when we are sitting or laying in the 5 x 5 exercise pen with her; this gives me plenty of time to catch up on my shows online. Anyone up for Skyping in the cage? The next two weeks her movements are limited to walking outside only to use the bathroom. The following 6 weeks will include minimal physical therapy at home and in the water tanked treadmill at South Paws Vet in Mandeville.
Her first post-op meal was a cheeseburger and fancy pet food fed to her one lamb nugget at a time by hand. Much like her Momma, she is a drama queen and demands attention in her time of distress. She is currently being showered with love, reassurance, and lots of drugs.
The only needs that have not been met at this time are the ones attached to my pocket. The surgery itself cost $3K today. Everything leading up to and any post-op checkups/rehab will be at least another $1K. Any funds donated would be a great help and I would forever be grateful. Ruca has pledged an infinite amount of licks to the highest donor.
Hopefully, she will be back to her old tricks and policing the neighborhood by mid-summer. So much love goes out to everyone who donates and well wishes. Thank you for taking the time to help my baby; she is my heart.
