I am asking for your help. My name is Chris Denham. I was born with a neuromuscular condition, Charcot Marie Tooth, or CMT for short. It is the most common peripheral neuropathy, affecting 1 in 2500 individuals. The disease affects the nerves of my hands and lower legs, which deteriorate over time. I am unable to walk very far without falling, and I have to lean against a wall if possible when out in public. I used to ride a bike, rock climb, and hike and now I am unable to do any of the things I enjoy. I have begun using plastic leg braces over the last few years, but they don't last very long and I have fallen several times due to their poor design. Currently, I am raising funds to obtain carbon fiber leg braces which will allow me to stand, walk, and even RUN! Yes, something I have never been able to do even as a young boy. I am studying to be a doctor so I can one day help children affected by similar challenges. At the moment I am a medical student with no job, so I am unable to pay for the braces which cost $13,000. Thank you for any help and please spread the word!
Chris is a client of Ortho Rehab Design in Las Vegas, NV. For information on the helio braces please visit www.ordesignslv.com. You are invited to email Michelle Anderson, client coordinator at ORD.
We hope you will support Chris in his quest to move forward, run and help others find a cure for neuromuscular conditions. To contact Chris please email Laura at [email redacted]. As a medical student he is busy with studies, he will return your messages.
Love, Faith and Hope, Chris Denham
