Jennifer Fish (McDowell) is a beautiful wife to her husband Jason and wonderful mom to her son Garrett. She is in her early 30’s and works part-time so she can be with her family. Jennifer has lived her life knowing the reality of breast and ovarian cancer. Her grandmother, who is currently in remission, has experienced both breast and ovarian cancer while her mothers life was cut short from cervical cancer.
Jennifer is now in her own fight. Thursday December 18, 2014 she will underwent her double mastectomy surgery to start her battle with breast cancer. In September of last year a lump was found and she had a mammogram and biopsy done. Her biopsy came back cancer. No words any wife or mother ever wants to hear, no matter their family history. Although due to the family history she needed genetic testing done which is something insurance has yet to realize the importance of and won’t pay, even though it’s very expensive. Her surgery has been postponed twice due to the genetic testing results. The surgery was scheduled to be done just after the new year, however last week’s results came back with the doctors scheduling her immediately for surgery.
After her surgery Jennifer will begin four rounds of chemotherapy. She is headed for a familiar battle that she has seen too many times before. The biggest difference between her and her mother & grandmother is the internet. Jennifer, Jason, and Garrett could use not only the power of prayer to help them heal, but financial assistance. The abuse Jennifer’s body is about to take is bad enough, but the fact that insurance only pays so much and expects a family whose had to put their lives on hold to pay the rest is just silly. Jason is her husband and will want to be with his wife as much as possible, but due to bills that’s not going to always be possible.
