Invite a family to the circus

How you can help: Invite a family to the circus!

Your donation will have double the impact. You will put smiles back on faces of people enduring unprecedented challenges and sustain the livelihoods of Phare artists. Each $10 donated allows us to invite 1 person who can bring a child under 12 for free. The more donations received, the more families, school groups and NGOs we can invite. More smiles and more jobs.

We believe in the power of the arts to transform lives.

At-risk Cambodian youth discover & develop their talent at  Phare Ponleu Selpak  non-profit school . They find gainful employment at the school's social business extension Phare Circus . Coming from unimaginably difficult social and economic backgrounds, they now earn good money to support themselves and their families. They perform around Cambodia and overseas; life experiences never available before.

The pandemic threatens these opportunities.

Since  2013, Phare Circus became Siem Reap's top-rated entertainment. The artists performed nightly in a circus big top filled to capacity. This came to a screeching halt in March 2020. The pandemic closed borders and visitors disappeared. Entertainment venues were ordered closed for health and safety.  The artists have not been able to perform since 17 March 2020. The circus has no income. Providing a stipend to the artists during the shut down is at risk.

Phare Circus Rising

Cambodia is emerging from the lockdown.

The US Embassy tapped Phare to celebrate American Independence Day (PHOTOS ). One of the performers was moved to tears after the show, she was so happy to be back on stage in front of such a distinguished audience.

'BBAND' lead by a Phare musician just launched a music video "Let's Visit Siem Reap" (VIDEO ) followed by a performance live-streamed on YouTube: LIVE STREAM

With strict health and safety precautions, the circus has permission to re-open. Performances resume with a weekend schedule 31 July through 31 Oct.

The biggest challenges are still ahead

With no international visitors for the foreseeable future, we must rely on the local market. However, the whole country is suffering financially from the pandemic. Many have lost their jobs and have no money for entertainment.

Doing nothing is not an option, but we must find a way to cover costs of resuming performances and putting the artists back to work.

Disclosure: I am an employee of Phare Performing Social Enterprise, however this is a personal initiative. Donations go to my personal account in the US then will be pooled and transferred to Phare Circus in Cambodia.
