<div>Hola, me llamo Esther y tengo 2 hijos con una mutación genética por déficit en el gen abcc6. Esta mutación provoca una enfermedad grave llamada calcificación arterial ideopática generalizada de la infancia que va creando depósitos de calcio en pequeños y grandes vasos sanguíneos obstruyendo el riego sanguíneo. Existen en el mundo unos 200 casos diagnosticados. A Olivia le obstruyó las arterias coronarias cuando tenía 2 años y 8 meses provocándole un infarto de gran extensión lo que precisó un trasplante cardíaco en julio de 2022. A raíz del diagnóstico de Olivia llegó el diagnóstico de Marcelo y nos volvimos a hundir pensando que le iba a pasar lo mismo a nuestro hijo porque actualmente no existe tratamiento y esta enfermedad tiene una tasa de mortalidad del 50%. La enfermedad puede manifestarse a partir de los 8 años con una enfermedad llamada PXE (Pseudoxantoma elastástico) que es una enfermera del tejido conectivo produciendo calcificaciones en la piel, ojos y sistema cardiovascular.

<div>Existe una investigación en Baltimore (EEUU) junto con una farmacéutica Inozyme Pharma que están desarrollando un ensayo clínico para detener esas calificaciones. Actualmente se ha iniciado en pacientes pediátricos y los investigadores de la enfermedad (el Dr. Ferreira y la Dra. Shira Ziegler) desean visitar a mis hijos en Baltimore para conocer más acerca de la enfermedad, la repercusión y posibles tratamientos en un futuro.
