The GhettoSongBird & Her Roxsploitation Band: Enchanting Rock Goddess Tour Rock-Her-Mentary

The life of my GhettoSongBird career was born in 2001. I then joined forces with phenomenal musicians; friends I call The Roxsploitation Band in 2005 (on the Philadelphia music scene). At a time when Neo-Soul was at its peek (in Philadelphia) we carved out our own niche with a new sound and engraved that particular era with anew age African American Rock vibe some have never witnessed in our town before. Too rockish for the neo-soul movement, yet too soulful for the rock venues, we had to constantly tour grassroots style to build a fanbase.

Today the evolution of Rock’n’Roll still has not been fully televised, nor is it frequently flying the mainstream airwaves. The vast isms of a Black woman fronting a hardcore Rock band with an aggressive electric guitar is not industry standards. In 2002 I was told by labels that there is no demand for a Black woman doing Rock. Ever since I've been stitching my own lane directly into the eyes and ears of the people. My wings of support is my amazing, Roxsploitation Band. We are a three piece unit that includes my husband Ronin Ali and my best friend Chris Nelson. We have been pulling our resources together over the years to travel across the USA. We've played at legendary Rock venues from The World Famous Whisky A Go-Go in Los Angeles, CA to The Bitter End in New York City.  We come to you the people as individual sponsors and investors.

Supporters showed up and showed out for us upon our Enchanting Rock Goddess Tour run in 2018. Everywhere we landed we left with rave reviews. You the people spoke, confirming that it's time to take our movement to the next level. Now it's our turn to show to show you that we are more than a show.

As an educator I am now including workshops, exhibitions and community service amidst our travels, to better connect with the local energy. I am a mom of four children (who travels with my husband and me on tour at times). Backstage and while on stage our 4 year old, 6 year old and 8 year old are like assistants. Our 1 year old is watching and learning. Seeing them soak up the experience has inspired me to share that with other children through creating mentorships and internships. It's truly a balancing act. They see Mommy, Daddy and Uncle Chris work extremely hard to not only live our dreams, but serve our divine purpose. My bandmates are also well versed in working with the youth. We all have years of teaching, mentoring and childcare experience.

Your wings of support will also help launch our Culture Rock Exchange Tour/Short Documentary Film, featuring Botswana Rock unit Rokara and many unsung Rock pioneers (I will interview). My band and I will journey to Botswana in Africa May 24th-26th to perform at their acclaimed event "Overthrust Winter Metal Mania Fest" and two other shows. They will then come to North America to perform at a event I am curating called "Diaspora Rock Exhibition" at the African American Museum Of Philadelphia June 8th (more dates TBA).  The exhibition will explore historic Rock-n-Roll artists and their experiences that don't usually  get the spotlight they deserved. This will be captured on video and produced into a documentary. My hope is to take this exhibition/screening global, while on tour.

Culture Rock Exchange Tour Promo: Featuring The GhettoSongBird & Her Roxsploitation Band & Rock Unit Rokara From Botswana

With no management, agent, record deal or sponsorship, we managed to get ourselves to this point. Now we have a vast social media network including the USA, Europe, Brazil & Africa, who are awaiting our band with open arms. Being independent artists, we need to accumulate finances to take our tour across more land and abroad. I am also thrilled to announce I was invited to teach a Master Guitar Class  in Kenya at the end of July.

Creating this Culture Rock Documentary is extremely important to me. There are a plethora of African American Rock bands/artist that broke the hinges off doors that I can only I can continue to pry open.  So many Rock pioneers go unheard that this new generation should know about. I plan on helping to share some those stories through this project as well as the Diaspora Rock Exhibition I am curating in Philadelphia June 7th 2019 at the African American Museum Of Philadelphia.

We will need video cards and portable lighting to carry upon our tour to shoot our documentary.

Your funding will assist us with our tour, which will accumulate the footage we need to create our documentary and curate exhibitions, screenings, workshops and more about the African Diaspora rock-n-roll journey. My goal is to release this film worldwide and give a huge portion of the proceeds to some of our struggling legends who gave so much to us through music and deserve that same love and support.

This space will be like a merchandise table at a concert to raise the funds we need to make this take flight. You will receive a rare bundles including Ghettosongbird memorabilia of concert past, my 1st EP "Alley Of The Earth", as well as new rock goddess merchandise.

Lifting up other along this creative path is the ultimate mission to pervade.  We all have individual unique gifts,  but imagine what we can collectively to elevate our contributions to the world.

Although Gofundme does not have a deadline, our own personal deadline is March 18th to raise at least $4000 for our destination to Botswana in Africa. This will cover flights. All other accommodations will be taken care of by our tour-mates Rokara.

April 1st for $6000 to start preparing accommodations for our Culture Exchange Tour-mates from Botswana, as well as other invited guest. This fraction of the funds will take care of their accommodations while in the USA and flights to Nairobi, Kenya to teach a guitar workshop for an event called The Guitar Festival.

The deadline for the full project is May 6th. That would sum up all expenses for the rest of the tour, exhibitions, workshops and film. Thank you times infinity for any support you can give. Peace and gratitude!

Sincerely,
