Help Create a Proof of Concept for a Lesbian TV Show Based in London: Invest in BABYGAY - A Short Film

My name is Emma Hill and I’m currently writing a new lesbian TV show based in London. The series is all about dating in 2025 - from late onset lesbianism to hetero couple power dynamics.

To help pitch the show as a series, I’ve created a short film called BABYGAY, which my team and I are looking to get made as a proof of concept.

We have just begun fundraising and are so incredibly excited to bring this story to life and encourage more queer representation on the silver screen. We need to have raised all funds by the end of March to shoot over the Easter Weekend so any and all donations are so greatly appreciated. So if you can, please help bring this film to life.

SHORT LOGLINE:
After waking up from a lesbian wet dream, a supposedly straight 25yr old girl changes her hinge settings to women for the first time. With the help of her well-meaning but chaotic housemates, she fumbles her way through an unhinged crash course in queerness as she examines her sexuality and prepares for her first ever date with a girl.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
BABYGAY is for anyone that’s ever questioned their identity and definitely for those who never have. This short film is intended to shine a light on compulsive heteronormativity, in particular how society and the media we consume conditions women to believe they’re straight…even when all the signs are pointing to not.

My hope is that by watching, viewers will hold a mirror up to their own lives and re-examine how they can embrace their most authentic selves, no matter how messy or complicated or long that journey may be.

I personally didn’t realise I was queer until my early twenties, due to how ingrained heterosexuality is in our culture. The idea of not being “normal”, not being “straight” was so far-fetched to me that I missed all the signs that I was attracted to women, more so than I was to men (big apologies to any of my male-idenitifying exes reading this).

For me, this isn’t just a story - it’s a celebration of uncertainty, a reminder that it’s okay to question who we are whilst embracing the courage to explore. It’s for everyone still figuring things out, and for those of us who are learning that it’s not about having all the answers, but about showing up and being open to the possibilities.

SYNOPSIS:
Sophia is straight…or so she thought. After waking up from a lesbian sex dream to a male hinge-date from hell, Sophia changes her app settings to women for the first time.

Eyes glued to her phone screen, her stalking is interrupted by her bubbly housemate Arabella who loves c*ck just as much as Sophia realises she doesn’t and her other housemate Talia, who’s been breaking girls’ hearts since she was 14.

With the help of her well-meaning but chaotic housemates, Sophia begins to understand she’s not so straight after all as she’s plunged into an unhinged crash course in lesbianism in preparation for her first date with a woman.

Overwhelmed by the pressure of having to re-examine her sexuality and how far behind she feels in her understanding of her own identity, Sophia freaks out. Will she sweep these new questions about her authentic self under the rug or overcome her insecurity and make it to the big date?
