Invest in Somali Women & Children

Donation protected

I am creating this campaign to ask for your help, brothers and sisters.  As you know, hundreds of thousands of our men have been killed in the Civil War and the ongoing conflicts in our country -- leaving a high percentage of our mothers husbandless and their children fatherless. Most recently, the bombing in Mogadishu took another almost 400 of our people. We are a nation in, what feels like, a constant state of morning.

Often, it is the people who live outside the big cities who are forgotten and overlooked. In the town of Afgooye (Afgoi) just 30 km outside the capital, there are hundreds of Somali mothers and children who have been forgotten by the world. The people of Afgooye are a peaceful people and their land a neutral one. But that hasn't stopped the conflict from spilling over into their town and homes.

Our widowed mothers, now the sole breadwinners, are struggling just to feed and provide for their children. This campaign seeks to address this need and alleviate some of the suffering by helping our mothers and their children lift themselves out of poverty.

First, the funds raised will go toward buying sewing machines, fabric, and providing training for our mothers so they can start their own home businesses. With this support, our mother’s will be able to make clothing to sell in local markets and to work as paid tailors – providing them with a sustainable source of income to feed and raise their children.

Second, the funds raised will go toward helping pay for needed school supplies, books, uniforms, and tuition for our children struggling to get an education. Many of our families cannot afford to send their children to school due to the effects of the decades-long conflict on the local economy. And sadly, many of our children have been orphaned and are living on the streets.

Both investments – the mothers’ training and resources and the children’s education – will help provide a way out of poverty and a pathway to thriving.

Will you help me support our Somali mothers and children back home? Your donation, no matter the amount, will help provide hope to the hopeless.

Thank you,
