Intubation Box for Covid 19 Pandemic

The Bergen MakerSpace is located in Bergen County, NJ which has been identified as a center of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a community resource, we were looking into ways to help the community. This week, we connected with our local hospital, to discuss needs. They asked if we could design and build out an Intubator box to help protect the medical staff on the front lines, who perform intubations.
After discussion with Doctors, specs were developed for two models of the box. Then the team got together, virtually, to discuss the details of how to design and build the first box.
Through those discussions, the team figured out the best way to get the job done, which included building out a custom tool to thermobend the PETG:
The results were encouraging and the team is currently refining the process specs.
We anticipate completing the models this week and hope to go into production by Monday. In order to produce these, we need 48x96 3/16” sheets of PETG. Once the hospital approves the prototypes, we can begin mass production. Our need is to purchase the PETG and Glue as well as a few other materials in order to produce these. For our first order, we will need to build 30. Each box costs approximately $140 to produce.
If finances allow, we will continue to build more for the area hospitals.
