Internship on St. Croix

My name is Anne-Kathrine, and I have been offered an incredible opportunity! As part of my Master's programme in Sustainable Heritage Management at Aarhus University, I have been given the chance to complete part of my semester-long internship on St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. I will join a local museum of Danish heritage to research their collections, help re-interpret exhibitions, and collect memories from members of the local community.

The purpose of this internship is for me to acquire all the knowledge and experience I possibly can to make my dream come true; and that dream is to study and disseminate colonialism after I graduate. Colonialism, with all its nuances and dilemmas, is, in my opinion, an underexposed topic in Danish society - and I wish to change that. For instance, I have completed 10 years of Danish primary education without ever being taught about the dark side of colonialism. That is what I wish to challenge when I finish my studies, and this internship is the first step in that direction.

Unfortunately, since my time abroad is only part of my internship, it is not applicable for support from most public and private foundations. Therefore I am now turning to crowdfunding.

The funds that I will hopefully collect from this Gofundme will be used to pay for my accommodation and living costs while I am on the island and occasional car rental when necessary. Should I collect more funds than I need, the excess amount will be donated to Project Promise, a non-profit organisation that works with and supports at-risk youth on St. Croix.
