Internet 4 all children at St Stephen's School

Developing Home Learning for All

St. Stephen’s Church of England Primary School serves a diverse, vibrant, and engaging community in central Bradford, West Yorkshire with very limited access to the internet and skills to access these. We are committed to providing an excellent education to overcome barriers and open the greatest prospects for all our children. Our endeavour is underpinned by St. Stephen’s vision of how nurture feeds growth and sustains flourishing: Nurture, Grow, Flourish. Without nurture, children neither grow nor flourish, physically, emotionally, socially, and academically.

During lockdown we have nurtured the families and children we serve by weekly telephone calls and home visits, and by supportive, encouraging messages on the school’s social media platforms. We have sustained children’s learning by providing paper-based learning packs, online activities, and educational videos.
Now, as we move forward, we seek your help to fund the development of additional learning opportunities that will redress and overcome the disadvantages many of our children and families face. A key feature of our plans to support children’s learning, during reintegration and into the future, is to ensure opportunities for effective learning beyond normal school hours. The period of lockdown has shown very clearly that all children need safe internet access at home if educational inequality is to be overcome.

At St. Stephen’s we have developed a strong staff team for teaching and learning which includes specialist teachers in art, music, drama, Spanish and computing. We have excellent staff expertise in Maths, Science, English and for the support of children with additional needs. We want to use the skills of all our staff and our children to develop our TV channel and radio station to support learning beyond the classroom. We will produce resources and make them available so that they can be used by parents / carers anywhere to provide the nurture that helps children to grow and flourish.

For this vision to be realised, I want every child at St. Stephen’s to be able to access the internet through the 4G/5G network. For this we shall need to provide each child with their own device. Our plea is for you to help us achieve this. Every donation takes us towards our target of £100,000

The outcome of this new dimension to our educational provision will be a growing library of resources that can be accessed via the internet, nurturing the children and families of our central Bradford community. By growing an online library for learning we intend to contribute to children’s education in the wider world. The aim is to strengthen the opportunities for children to grow through their independent learning and become flourishing individuals with much to contribute.

As a school we will contribute expertise to create safe internet access, content and training and support for parents through our new TV and radio station. These staffing and hardware costs are approximately  £50,000

We will keep all who support this initiative updated with the progress of this exciting project.
