My name is Anjali Kaptain. I have recently been selected to represent Malaysia at the International Youth Media Summit held this year in Pokhara, Nepal July 26 to August 10, 2019.
I have always loved the way performing arts creates greater empathy in my heart for the needs of others. Knowing how people in need are feeling motivates me to act on their behalf. The performing arts and Nepal have always been two great loves that I share. Now, I have the opportunity to bring these two loves together and be part of a team of young people who are committed to making a difference in this world, using art. My role in making a difference in this world isn’t about getting a lot of people to change. It’s about using my gifts to point others to CHRIST, the only one I believe can change this world for the better. My hope is that when other people see me perform, they will see his finger prints on my life and be inspired to think about their own place in this world and how he can use them to also make a difference.
During this summit I will be meeting with almost one hundred young people from around the world who have a passion to make a difference in the world through media. Attendees will be broken into seven different groups to create a short film about various global issues. Film topics include: Discrimination, environment, health, poverty, violence, women’s rights, and youth empowerment.
I have requested to be assigned to the Women’s Rights group. As a young woman, I am super excited about this topic. My hope is to also act in one or more of these seven short films, fulfilling my desire to use the gifts that God has given me to make a difference in this world.

Anjali’s Malaysian/Nepal Highlights
· Favorite activities include singing and acting to make the world a better place.
· Performed in an original musical in Malaysia called One Minute to Midnight, a story about a group of teenagers who embark on an adventure to save the planet from environmental waste.
· Served in Malaysian school projects, including: Visiting retirement homes to play bingo with the elderly and perform with the school band to entertain them.
· Other Malaysian school projects include cleaning up trash at local beaches.
· Worked with the “From Kids4Kids” Malaysian school program: Teams organized fundraisers, like bake sales, to sponsor children in the world who need help.
· Received the “GOD-Seeking” award at school in sixth grade.
· Performed “Amazing Grace” at an orphanage in Nepal.
· Visited another orphanage in Nepal with my school to play games with the children.
· Cleaned up local trash on the streets of Kathmandu with the TeenStreet Nepal youth camp
