International Study Abroad GHANA

Donation protected

Hey guys! For those of you who don't know me, I'm Zainab Maqbool and I am currently a Masters student at The University of York where I study Social Research Methods. I also work part time with The Department for Education conducting social research on children in care. In June I am going to Ghana for 2 weeks to study abroad and learn about their unique society.

If you know me at all, you will know I am a interested in exploring different cultures, ethnicity, social divisions, and pretty much anything that has to do with society.  Studying abroad will provide me with a lens to gain a new perspective on a country rich with its unique culture, politics and history as well as view my own culture through a new lens. The trip consists of study abroad classes alongside cultural trips around Ghana for 2 weeks.
These include:
Accra city tour: including museums and art galleries
Cape Coast and Elmina–slave forts and castles
Kakum National park
Akosombo–largest man-made lake
Kumasi–palace, arts centre, park, weaving village

Studying abroad is an exciting opportunity that I have been intrigued in since my first year at university and I feel that 2019 is the perfect year for me to embark on a new challenge and environment. The University of Ghana is also regularly named among the world’s most reputable academic institutions and discussed in terms of experiencing constant upward mobility, this fills me with the confidence that I am in capable hands in my host country. Their academic research influence and volume of international students and staff are particularly attractive features to me that I believe will enrich my learning.

I have also recently applied for a place on the Sociology PhD course at The University of York, the international reputation of York's department attracts a diverse set of students from around the world. Studying abroad would enhance my personal, academic and professional skills by providing me with a deepened understanding and respect for how different cultures approach daily life, as well as the confidence to communicate with new academics from Ghana University. My interactions with professors, new peers and students in Ghana would develop my international knowledge base, communication skills and critical lens which I study social issues with that will be hugely beneficial for career in academic social research.

The trip is estimated to cost around £3000 for the entire thing. £2500 is going towards tuition and fees. The remainder of the money (which this page will fund) will be used towards my VISA application,  airfare, insurance and trips.

If you've read this far, even that means a lot to me so thank you so much! If you are feeling generous please could you make a donation, even a couple of pounds would be extremely helpful.

If you're interested, those who would like to receive some update emails about the trip and what I'm doing, contact me or add your email to your donation and I will add you to the email list!

Thankyou so much everyone
