International Nursing Placement to Lusaka, Zambia

Donation protected
My name is Becky Sloan and I am a second year children's nursing student at Queens University Belfast. As part of my nursing degree myself and a few other nursing students have been given the amazing opportunity to go to Lusaka, Zambia for our elective placements in February 2021  for 4 weeks. This opportunity is a once in a lifetime experience and I am so thankful to have been chosen to be part of this group.

Lusaka's children's hospital has very limited resources, nursing staff and healthcare services. My time here will allow me to experience these pressures the nursing team face every day, therefore providing me with an invaluable learning experience.

This placement will allow me to see and care for children with late presentations, unusual diseases, malnutrition, malaria and many more. However it will be extremely challenging with  diarrhoea being the main cause of death for children under 5, and HIV/AIDS related complications coming a close second.

Since the placement is unpaid and completely self funded, the funds that I raise will be essential for three reasons:

1. Travel costs
2. Accommodation costs
3. Living costs (including food and water)

Not having any funding for this placement would mean I would not be able to go and help the many sick children in need of nursing care in Lusaka Children's Hospital.

Your funding, no matter how little or big, will ultimately go towards a great cause and will be very much appreciated. Every little will help.

For those who do donate and/or have already donated, I would like to greatly thank you in supporting this endeavour.
