Dear Humanity,
I'm an immigrant in the United States from the Czech Republic. My story is one of migration, deportation, escaping domestic violence, and fighting for my family to be reunited in safety.
I came to the U.S. in 1996 when I was 21 years old and I have worked multiple jobs consistently since then to support myself and my family. Since my daughter's birth in 2010, she became my first priority and I tried to give her everything I possibly could within my ability, which started by leaving the abusive situation we were in with her biological father. Not too long after, I met my husband, who was a blessing and a savior to my daughter and to myself. We shared six years together as a loving, hard working, and determined family. We were living "The American Dream", until November 2016 when an unstable, hateful, American woman reported my husband to the ICE tip line. Before we had a chance to enjoy the holidays, he was arrested, jailed for 8 months, and deported to his home country. Our lives were turned upside down. Every hour became a stressful, emotional, and financial struggle. My daughter's nurturing, loving, and committed stepfather was taken away literally before her eyes; we were left alone and traumatized.
During the following year of hardship we continued to suffer emotional mistreatment from her biological father. As a mother I started to fantasize about a better life for my little girl surrounded by loving, supportive, and healthy family members. I began planning a way for all of us to be together again in my home country where, as my daughter grows, her needs can be completely met.
The next step was to hire a family attorney that specialized in international child custody matters. We won the case in court quickly due to her father's obvious abusive and negligent behavior. It was one of the happiest days of my life to know we can move on to safety and be free from the escalating threats. But then my joy was quickly smothered by a shocking attorney bill that totaled more than my annual income. I am now weighted down with this heavy financial and traumatic burden on top of trying to relocate and start a new life for my family in the Czech Republic.
We are humble and private people and I never imagined to be sharing the intimate details of our lives with the world. These circumstances have left me feeling vulnerable and fearful. I realized that I need to reach out for help on behalf of my family. Every donation is a blessing and if you are unable to donate, please share our story.
