WAST (Women Asylum Seekers Together) and Safety4Sisters are two activist groups run for and by refugee women in Manchester. Their offices are housed in Partisan Collective, a co-operatively run social space.
Women from these groups work tirelessly at Partisan on their refugee and asylum seeker activism. However, it's not often that they have a chance to enjoy events here due to childcare commitments, financial constraints and the time they devote to their vital work.
To address this, we want to put on an event that gives WAST and Safety4Sisters a chance to sit back and have fun in the holidays. We're holding an Interfaith Dinner on Sunday 23rd December from 2-6pm – a child-friendly event with food, games and fun activities. Because we recognise that travel costs can be discouraging, we are offering to reimburse travel for refugees and asylum seekers who attend the event.
Originally, we planned to make the event free for refugees and asylum seekers, while charging ticket prices for other attendees to cover our costs. But now it seems that demand from refugee and asylum seeker attendees is so high that it will fill capacity for the space! This is excellent news, but it means that to make sure all those women and their families can come, we need additional funding.
This is where you come in. If you can spare any money to help make this important event happen, it would make all the difference. We're aiming to reach £500 to cover food costs and travel reimbursement, with any left over money donated to WAST and Safety4Sisters and the important work they do.
If you're reading this as a refugee or asylum seeker who is interested in attending the dinner, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com for more information. We also need volunteers to help out on the day - if you're interested in volunteering, get in touch.
Thank you for reading, Rosa Méthol and Sanaz Raji
