Chris suffered a massive stroke a little over 6 years ago and has worked hard to promote awareness for other stroke survivors by doing fund raisers for them during his recovery time by running a complete Ironman and the Boston Marathon. Yes his strength in his body has returned to about 80% but his speech still has a long way to go. Aphasia is the loss of speech or communication abilities due to a brain injury and in Chris' case it was caused by a blood clot going through a hole in his heart to the brain just two days after ACL knee surgery. We are so proud of Chris for facing his struggles and facing numerous surgeries after the stroke to include open heart surgery on July 23, 2018. He has been unable to do physical activities since then and therefore has decided he is ready to partake in an INTENSIVE SPEECH THERAPY TREATMENT CENTER in St. Petersburg, FL. The success rate for improvement in speech has been proven very high. Although Chris will never regain all of his speech and communication skills back he certainly will improve from this treatment. The center usually requires 4 to 6 weeks of treatment the first time around which costs approximately $5,000 a week, however, since Chris has only time for 3 weeks at a time the center has offered to split the treatment for him. due to their availability and Chris' schedule. Chris has several cardiology appointments in February for check ups and the class that he will be attending is from March 11 to March 29.
Chris will be celebrating his 43rd Birthday on Feb. 5, 2019 and we thought it would be a great idea to present him with a Birthday present for the expenses of the Treatment Center. He is really looking forward to attending this Treatment Center but because insurance doesn't cover any of the costs to include getting there and back as well as food, we thought any donation would be greatly appreciated.
