Hello everyone
My name is Erick Luna, my wife Chelsice Luna is currently 31 weeks pregnant with our first child and was hospitalized for now 5 weeks due to high liver enzymes. Doctors are concerned for liver functions that could develop into atypical preeclampsia, liver failure, or worse. The main concern is the heath of my wife and our child. As of now our baby is going to need to be delivered at 34 weeks for the safety of her and the baby.
Docters, nurses and staff are doing a wonderful job on monitoring my wife and baby. But the problem that has arisen is the short-term disability though the insurance. They have denied our claim saying the pregnancy is a preexisting condition. When we had added the short- term disability was during re enrollment but since the first doctor's appointment we went to for the baby was during re enrollment and the insurance was not active until 2 weeks after they are saying it preexisting (which the clause they are referring to was never mentioned by 3 separate insurance specialist that we spoke to before we enrolled in our current plan). We understand not getting maternity leave after the baby is born, but the issue is my wife being hospitalized for elevated liver enzymes was not a preexisting condition, which the doctor's had said multiple times that this was not a preexisting condition and does not mean this is due to her being pregnant. We have already appealed this, and they are trying to deny further claims just because my wife is pregnant.
Without her income we are struggling financially. We are a two-income household, and the reason we have been paying the extra money on the insurance was so we could receive the short-term disability, which they have made it very clear that no matter the condition of my wife just because she is pregnant they will do their best to not pay us a dime even though we have been paying for this coverage for the last year. This should be a joyous time for us welcoming our baby girl into this world, but due to the disability insurance it has been a stressful time trying to keep up with bills. I don't want my wife to have any extra stress, and we want to enjoy every part of being new parents. I have been able so far to keep up with bills and house payments so far with help friends, family members, and working as many extra hours as possible.
We are asking if anyone would be willing to help during these hard times with prayers and donations.
Thank you for taking the time to read through our journey and we appreciate all the help!
