Insulin Pump for Jack!

Donation protected
Many of you know that Jack was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of three. He is now 11 years old and in the 6th grade.  Jack's daily routine includes testing his blood sugar through finger pokes around 8 times day, calculating the carbs in his meals in order to determine the correct dosage and injecting insulin with a needle 3-5 times a day. He also takes a long acting insulin at night which helps to stabilize his levels.
We are raising money for an insulin pump. This past November, Jack participated in a insulin pump study at the Barbara Davis Center. The study involved testing a pump with a predictive low feature that turns off insulin delivery when experiencing low blood sugar.
This study has had a huge impact on Jack's quality of life. He no longer needs to give himself injections and he does not need to take a second long acting insulin. The pump makes all of the calculations necessary and delivers insulin through a small port that gets changed every 3-5 days. The dosage is more precise and results in better control of his levels.
Jack is so excited about this simpler and less invasive process. This also makes dosing much more discreet than with his pen needle. The pump "talks" to his Continuous Glucose Monitor and he only has to test his blood with 2 finger pokes a day now. This also allows him to sleep better because he does not need injections-the pump delivers the insulin instantaneously.
Jack's overall A1C has improved since he has been participating in the study. His levels are in range more and he is not experiencing as many highs or lows. He is not missing as many classes due to his Diabetes and feels so much better overall.
We are excited about this technology to better manage Type 1 Diabetes. Soon the pump will be capable of determining highs and lows and adjusting insulin accordingly. Any contribution is helpful and greatly appreciated!
