Insulin for Mia

Donation protected
Last week, Hurricane Maria, a category 4 storm, hit Puerto Rico and the surrounding islands. The storm wreaked havoc and utter devastation on the island; the effects of which will be felt for many months to come.

My sister, Alondra Mia has Type 1 diabetes  which is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. The body breaks down the sugars and starches you eat into a simple sugar called glucose, which it uses for energy. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy lives.

At the moment, she is with my parents in Puerto Rico and as you may know we have no way to ship the insulin to the island. I have reach out to the companies that make her medication and they have sent me to their customer service number.  No shock there.

The only way to access insulin in Puerto Rico right now is thru local drugstores  at full price. The insurance won't cover it. My parents asked me to start this campain in order to mitigate some costs.

Please help. Anything will be incredibly appreciated.
