Inspirational 8th Grd. Capitol Trip

Donation protected
Hi my name is Eliza. I am 13 and the oldest of 7 kids. My parents have always wanted a big family, so my parents adopted 4 boys and my stepmom just had a Babyboy who is 5 months. And then there is my sister and I, the two oldest. We live in Arizona on what my family calls a hobby farm (with a horse, sheep, chickens, and cats).

My 8th grade Social Studies class is going on a trip to Washington D.C and New York, for 7 days, in April. My teacher has given us opportunities to raise money, like sell coupon books, and work at the school snack bar during basketball games and such. But doing these school fundraisers won’t be enough. That is where all of you fantastic people come in to play.

I need to raise $1,700 by myself or doing fundraisers like this, and then my dad will cover the rest of the amount, because it hard to cover all of it with a big family. But if I can raise enough money with all your donations, that would a miracle!

During the trip to D.C our class will have the honor of participating in a special Wreath Laying Ceremony with the Honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider.  We will also visit the House of Representatives and the Senate to see democracy in action.  We will get a private tour of the White House, where we might get to see the President and my state’s very own Congresswoman Martha McSally. And much more!  In my social studies class we did a role-playing game where I got to pretend to be the President, and I can’t wait to see firsthand what it’s like for our government leaders.

When we visit New York City, we will see Top of the Rock, the Today Show at Rockefeller Center, and go on a tour of NBC studios. We will also walk across the famed Brooklyn Bridge and visit Times Square.

One of the things I’m most looking forward to in NYC is that we get to see a Major League Baseball Game and visit Ground Zero, participating in both the entertaining and sobering events that have formed our national culture. And of course, we will go to Ellis Island and see the Statue of Liberty.

Thank you for reading all of this, please donate or tell your friends or both!! This is just a small sampling of events planned for us on the trip to Washington D.C. and New York City, things that are so groovy I can’t do them justice yet!     However, everyone who donates to help make this a reality for me will receive an electronic photo album of the things I see along with information about them and what I have learned from my experiences.

Thank you!! - Eliza
