Innocence Project Delaware by Lucy and Noura
Donation protected
Hello, our names are Lucy Choa and Noura Boland and we are seventh graders at NCCL School in Newark, DE. Our school is doing a project called The Big Give, where each student is given fifty dollars and asked to make a difference with the money. Our goal is to do more than simply donate the money, but to try to make it grow, use it to purchase needed items, raise awareness, and to get others involved to help us.
Think about if you were wrongfully convicted for something that you didn’t do. Imagine sitting in jail, knowing that you didn’t deserve to be there. Around 5% of people sent to jail are wrongfully convicted. That’s 11,500 people serving time in jail for something that they didn’t do. During the time that people are in jail, they can lose contact with the real world and it can take them a long time to adjust.
Our mission is to help people who were wrongfully convicted. It is disgusting how biased and messed up our justice system is. It has been biased since it was created. Noura: Sometimes I feel scared walking down the street with my brothers because we are all people of color. We have never been arrested for a crime we didn't commit, and I can't imagine how scary that would be, especially being in a courtroom where people are telling you that you committed a vicious crime when you know that you didn't.
Your donation to The Innocence Project Delaware will help many people who have this situation as their reality.
We are raising money for office supplies and money to go straight to legal funds. Thank you in advance for helping us make a difference.
