What seemed to be a temporary / emergency placement has now become more of a long-term commitment...
Amy and I have new family members who will be living with us indefinitely and off and on in the year(s) to come. We have committed to helping out this family of 5 by having 3 of the siblings live with us.
As many of you know, our mission in Kansas City is to stabilize families through providing and protecting affordable housing. One of our tenant/families, who has been with us for a few years hit rock bottom. As a result, the mother needed help with the kids and not all of her immediate family members were able to take on the responsibility of all of the children. She asked us if the oldest could stay with us until she was able to get stabilized and we agreed.
After a few months, the mother is still having difficulty getting stabilized. We are realizing that there are other hindrances in her life that are preventing her from getting stabilized as needed. She is still currently homeless, and we have realized that the fathers are non-existent. (each has different fathers). We have agreed to take in two of the other siblings in our home. So we now have a fifteen-year-old, a thirteen-year-old, and an eight-year-old, living with us!
After the mother has a place, the mother has agreed to let the kids stay with us on the weekends, but we are not certain how long that will take for her to become stable.

Taking in two teenagers and one grade-schooler in the midst of a Pandemic....wowzer!

We are looking for a few friends/sponsors to carry and share this family with us!
This has been quite chaotic and expensive getting these kids stabilized in adjusted to our life schedule.
We have had to purchase clothing, furniture, school sports gear, and a lot of food ( our grocery bill has tripled! ) And with Christmas right around the corner, Amy and I are wanting the kids (those staying with us and the other two little ones) and the mother to have an abundant Christmas.
We are only sending this to a few trusted friends. We are not wanting this to go public.
If you are able and willing to be a part of this with us, please feel free to reach out to us. We believe that in order to bless this family and not over extend ourselves, emotionally, spiritually and financially, that we need the support of our friends and community to help give these kids a chance to get out of the poverty cycle!
