In Memory Of Rebecca Lyn Maher

Donation protected
Our Rebecca died in police custody at Maitland Police Station on 19 July, 2016. She was just 36 years old. Although Rebecca had not been charged with anything she died in a police cell less than six hours after being taken into custody. Our family was not informed of her death until almost 6 hours later.

We, her family are devastated. Rebecca has 4 beautiful children who she loved more than anything.

We were not able to be by her side as she died, but we can be her voice now. It is our hope that we can honour Rebecca, who was an Aboriginal (Wiradjuri) woman and a much loved daughter, sister and mother. We hope to raise enough money to pay for her funeral costs and a headstone for her grave.
When her children are older our wish is that they can see that their mother was not alone, that her life mattered and that her family honoured her memory.

The most important thing to Rebecca was that her children have the future that all children deserve.  If there is any money left after paying for the funeral and headstone please be assured that it would go towards her children’s futures.

We, Rebecca's family hope that Rebecca's death will be the last death in custody and that no other family will have to suffer this devastating trauma and grief.

Any help with donations would be deeply appreciated by our family and make a huge difference. One dollar or five dollars  whatever you can afford – we will be forever grateful.
