Laura’s Story

This page is set up in loving memory of Laura Nash Mary Drohan.

Many people will remember Laura for her infectious laugh, quick wit, twinkling blue eyes, and fierce independence. Generous, intelligent and vivacious- she enriched the lives of all she met.

Laura worked hard in all her ventures, but loved even harder. And no role was more important to her than the role of mother. She was truly selfless, even if that often meant putting her own needs second. She always went out of her way to make others feel welcome or to put a smile on someone's face. There is simply no denying the profound and positive impact she had on the world, her family, her friends, and particularly her beautiful young children.

While Laura’s sweet and gentle soul was quick to carry others’ burdens, sadly in the end she could not bear her own. On September 8th 2017, Laura lost her courageous and hard-fought battle with anxiety and depression.

Her family would like to establish funds - both to benefit posterity and to echo her boundless love for her beloved children, who were the absolute center of her universe and delight of her life.

We would be so grateful for any amount you could donate to commemorate such an amazingly bright light and to carry the torch for the benefit of her children.

Rest in Peace, Sweet Laura.

Funds sourced from this one Go Fund Me account will be allocated in the following ways:

Laura's Bench-
We’d like to set aside a portion of funds to purchase and dedicate a commemorative park bench to place in Loudoun County, Virginia. We want Laura's children to have a place to sit; to feel close to her; and to reflect on the immense love their mother had for them. We also envision providing rest for a weary traveler - a peaceful place to pause and reflect on life's beauty and the beauty that Laura brought to our world and lives.

Laura's Scholarship-
In this past year alone, there were approximately 23 million Americans who needed inpatient rehabilitation and less than 10 percent received it. The journey arriving at a place ready to seek treatment is often a tumultuous one filled with obstacles and barricades. We hope to raise these funds to eliminate cost as one of the barriers to persons seeking help, and also facing financial difficulty. Assisting even just one person to help see more clearly would greatly honor Laura's struggle.

Love from Laura-
We hope to establish a fund so Laura's family may draw upon these resources to carry on her legacy of love.  We’d like to provide meaningful activities for Laura's children - ones that she herself would have wanted to share with them.  These activities -ranging from music and dance lessons to educational events and summer camps, will help keep Laura's vision, wishes and dreams for her children alive and perhaps even enable her children to discover more about who she was and what she valued.

** A representative from the family (Laura's sister, Kathleen Drohan) will be withdrawing the funds and depositing them into a designated checking account until such time that a scholarship is created, a bench is procured, and educational activities for the children are identified.

Even though she's not with us on Earth, she will always be with us in spirit.  As such, we, her family, are committed to maintaining a very tangible connection between Laura and the two little  people most precious to her.  It is our greatest hope that her children know her and continue to feel treasured and deeply loved by her. Simply, we want to do for her children, as she would have done for them, herself.  This would be her wish.
