It’s quotes like these that have put us on a mission to help transform the lives of children and adolescents suffering from severe mental illness and brain disorder, Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD). Our mission is to promote a life-changing brain-based treatment plan that was developed decades ago but NOT currently used as the standard of care. This brain-based approach is a precise neurological process of detecting and treating the root cause of DMDD by using a specialized brain scan and a specific medication combination. Over time, children may need less medication as new brain cells take on the appearance of calm brain cells. There IS hope, and our stories are proof that effective treatment does exist for DMDD, and we want to shout it from the rooftops!
We are NOT affiliated with any pharmaceutical or medical company. Instead, we are parents who have persevered and are now volunteering our time to launch Revolutionize DMDD as a new entity that will be a non-profit organization based in the United States. With your support, we aspire to help other families find the same stability without years of trial and error. We plan to provide educational outreach and support materials for families, medical professionals, and academic settings. In addition, we strive to establish and equip several brain disorder Centers of Excellence (or "hubs") across the United States that would welcome ALL children regardless of financial hardships.
So far, Revolutionize DMDD has filed articles of incorporation to become a nonprofit corporation under Ohio law. With your support and donations, Revolutionize DMDD plans to obtain necessary legal counsel, complete the formation process, and construct an educational website to further its mission.
What is DMDD?
DMDD is NOT bad parenting, spoiled children, nor can it be treated with therapy alone.
DMDD is a neurological brain disorder in which a child cannot control their intense rage, aggression, and irritability. Their brain is having seizure-like activity and until they can be stabilized, therapy alone will not help. In fact, after a rage, they often cannot remember what had happened. It is common for parents and siblings to have PTSD as a result of living with a raging child who can explode at any given moment. Families often isolate themselves from others due to their child’s intense behavior. According to Psychiatric News (2018), up to 85 percent of children with DMDD also have ADHD.
Who We Are
We are an international coalition of families impacted by severe pediatric mental illness and brain disorder, DMDD. Joined by physicians and community members, we have seen firsthand the life-transforming results of this groundbreaking scientific method.
The parents in our group hail from across the United States, and as far away as Australia, Canada, and Israel, having spent years exhausting all medical (and even alternative) treatment options for our mentally suffering children. Treatments have involved many medication trials - and in most cases, hospitalization - to no avail. Instead of gaining hope, we had to keep fighting to find an effective treatment for our children. From our collective personal experiences, we can tell you that antipsychotic drugs do not work as a primary long-term mood solution for DMDD. More importantly, we can tell you what does work to achieve long term stability that creates a neurological pathway for healthy brain development.
Armed with information, we each created partnerships with our local doctors to implement a treatment plan that we learned about after intensive research. As a result, and to our astonishment, we have each witnessed a life-changing transformation in our children - all due to the utilization of detecting and targeting the root cause of DMDD in the brain, instead of typical symptom management. The parents in our coalition have banded together, feeling a moral obligation to share the game-changing treatment that has stabilized our children, so that other youth can be spared the devastating effects of severe mental illness. We all found the pathway to healing that has kept our children out of the hospital! This treatment saved our kids, our marriages, and our families. We want this hope available for ALL.
Why is this non-profit needed?
For years, a large subset of children and teens with severe neurobehavioral symptoms (debilitating explosive rages and chronic irritability) have either been incorrectly diagnosed as having pediatric bipolar disorder or have had physicians or therapists throw their hands up in the air with frustration, declaring these kids are beyond help.
The problem with both of these scenarios is that without the correct diagnosis - or effective treatments available - children with DMDD are left dealing with severe and debilitating mental illness. Impairment so extreme that many are unable to attend school, family life is in a state of constant crisis, and many require hospitalization. Parents have often exhausted all known medical, therapeutic, and drug treatments with little or no success. It is common to hear parents describe the "living hell" their entire family experiences alongside their sick child. Many families are desperate for help, not knowing where to turn when their doctors lack knowledge of an effective treatment.

Tax Status
Please note Revolutionize DMDD has not yet obtained exemption under section 501(c)(3) of the Code. However, the organization intends to file an exemption application with the IRS in the near future requesting 501(c)(3) status. Contributions to Revolutionize DMDD are not deductible at this time. If Revolutionize DMDD ultimately obtains 501(c)(3) status, you should consult with your tax advisor as to whether your contributions will become deductible retroactively.
