Oxford County Kids Dragon Boating At Worlds

Donation protected
Oxford County will be well represented at the U16/U18 Canada National Dragon Boat Team as Logan Johnston ,Landon Pare, Marleena Coull, Sam Borland, Aralyn Smith and Natalle Dodd head to the World Championship in Thailand this coming August.

We are raising funds to help cover the significant cost associated with representing Canada August 20th to August 25th 2019.

Logan Johnston has a couple Championships under his belt and is eager to make his mark with his fellow teammates during his 3rd experience with Nationals. Logan’s dedication to the sport and encouragement shown towards his teammates will no doubt be an asset to the team again this year.

Landon Pare was forced to find a new sport to call home after receiving 3 concussions in less than 2 years, he had no choice but to give up his love of hockey to pursue a new one.  One year later, his determination, hard work, inspirational coaching and encouragement from Logan as well as his dedication to training have paid off.  When one door closes, another opens, you just have to be willing to take that journey.

Marleena Coull is headed to her 2nd World Championships.  Now on her 7th year of paddling.  She is now steering practices and races and helping the coaches with the new paddlers each year.  Marleena will be trying to start a team with her college that she will be attending a week after we return from the world championships.

At 11 years old, Aralyn Smith started in the sport thanks to her skating coach (Marcia Coull). Her initial goal was to keep up with the Marleena and Logan’s of the team and stay at pace during a race. She discovered her love and quickly changed her end goal to making it on the national team by 12. Aralyn became focused, trained hard and with the assistance of coaches, teammates and family, she was rewarded with this amazing opportunity.

At the age of 12, Brenna Higgs decided that playing baseball like her brothers was something she no longer wanted to do and she wanted to try something new. A flyer came home from school advertising a registration night for the local Jr Dragon boat team and she thought she give it a try. Four years later, thanks to her coaches, fellow teammates and hard work, Brenna will be representing Canada at The Worlds

At the age of 10 Natalie Dodd was introduced to the sport of dragon boating. It was something new for our family but we found it to be a wonderful compliment to her winter sport of figure skating. Now 3 years later, dragon boating has become a passion for Natalie and she has worked very hard to gain strength and endurance all with the goal of making it onto the Junior National team. She is very excited to represent our community and country at the upcoming Worlds in Thailand

Sam Borland like Landon will be going for the first time to Worlds.

Representing Canada is a huge honor and they are all looking forward to having the opportunity to bring back the gold.

Thank you for your support.
