I have known the ocean my entire life. Being born and raised on the coast of Long Island, I have grown fond of the beauty that the ocean surrounds us with. Swimming came easy for me, and as I excelled in the sport, my passion for the sea became my job. For the last three summers, I have been a lifeguard at Robert Moses State Park, and am currently putting myself through EMT training, which have led me to where I am today.
Recently I was selected among other lifeguards, coming from around the globe, by International Surf Lifesaving Association, to travel to Indonesia for the second time. Here, we will reach out to the communities where water safety may not be readily available. We will teach rescue and medical techniques, as well as donate equipment needed to make the beaches safe here. We will work closely with Balawista Lifeguards, in Pangandaran Beach to hold 3 day basic training course. Our mission is to certify lifesavers and donate equipment, to grow our relationship with the Pangandaran Lifeguards, and to help end the global drowning epidemic.
We as lifeguards are acting as volunteers for this trip, we provide our own travel expenses and fuel this experience through our own donations. With this said, I'm asking for a little help from my fellow lifeguards, friends and family. These donations will help fund our progam, as well as the hefty travel expenses we need to get to these places. Every little bit counts!
