Independent Journalism In War-torn Artsakh

My name is Patrick Lancaster. I am an independent journalist, not monitized on YouTube. I have just returned from a largely self-funded trip to the epicenter of the Armenia- Azerbaijan war, the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh). I learned so much about the conflict while I was there, and was able to share with millions of people first hand accounts and video evidence of what is really happening on the ground in this conflict. However, being a crowd-funded independent journalist, I was unfortunately only able to stay in the conflict zone for a couple of weeks. My video reports documenting the atrocities that the people of Artsakh have suffered have been seen by over 3 million people globally, but imagine how many people we can reach, and how much more informed the information we could get out, if I were reporting while embedded in the zone for 4 to 6 months.

You may also be aware that there has just been a deal signed between Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia to end the conflict. This deal was struck without the approval of the people of Artsakh. That makes this deal tenuous, and leaves unaddressed the root causes of the conflict. I feel the people of Artsakh need my work more than ever. The world needs to see the atrocities that have been visited upon these civilians, hear the stories of these people first hand, and be armed with the information necessary to properly engage with the consequences of this peace deal.

I am not like the mainstream media, who often simply sends a reporter into the zone for a few days, then leaves without really understanding the people, and the nature and roots of the conflict. Much like my years long work in Donbas, I plan to dedicate a significant period of time (4-6 months) reporting from the zone on the situation in Artsakh and Armenia. To make this project a reality done properly, I need your donations to cover costs involved in the production of my breaking news reports and mini-documentaries. I fully believe that, with your help, we can make a real difference for the people of Artsakh. We can reach millions around the globe, and help them to understand what has happened to the people impacted by this conflict.

Where will your donations go, specifically? In order to do this project properly, I need your donations to cover the costs of the production of my breaking news reports and mini-documentaries, to including travel, equipment, equitment maintenance, translation services, staff services as necessary (cameraman, driver, guide, translators, security if necessary, etc), general costs of day to day work, and the relocation of my family to Yerevan for the duration of the project. Please help fund this project now if you are able. And most importantly, please share this with anyone who shares your concern for proper, integral journalistic coverage of this conflict and its aftermath.

With sincere gratitude,
Patrick Lancaster
