Increase Accessibility at The Ville by Paving

Through this project, we intend to improve the accessibility of our building by paving the north driveway, making it easier to get on and off the wheelchair ramp that is connected to the main entrance. As of now, our driveway is at an incline, filled with potholes and uneven terrain, making it difficult for people to get in and out of the building, especially if they have mobility issues. Laying down some asphalt would improve the situation drastically, allowing more people to access our building and the resources we provide from within.

To put things into perspective, we have included a personal statement from one of our team members who uses this ramp every day to get to work. Alex has agreed to include his story with the intention of bringing awareness to the accessibility issues of our community.

“I've been involved with The Ville for the last two years and I have first hand experience with The Ville’s driveway. It's fair to say that it is not ideal for people with mobility issues. It's rough, bumpy, and has a lot of uneven ground and divets. It truly is undriveable on rainy days, due to the mud and gravel slush. I believe paving our driveway would be extremely beneficial to our organization as well as our community. Someone without my upper body strength or with more severe physical limitations would not be able to manage using our driveway on their own.” -Alex Greer, 2021.

We have received a grant covering nearly 50% of the project costs and are looking to raise the remainder of the costs. Total cost of the project is just over $20,000. We have secured $9,400 through a grant and another $3,000 from a private investor. We're calling on members of the community to help us increase the accessibility in our building so that those with mobility issues are able to access the facilities.
