Inclusive Playground

Kaitlyn’s (my daughter) classmates a little while ago asked their teacher why Kaitlyn can’t play on the playground with them. So the teacher explained to them that Kaitlyn cannot get onto the playground because she is in a wheelchair and the playground is not accessible.

So the kids asked how she could play with them and started researching accessible playground equipment.

They all wrote letters explaining why their school should have an accessible playground because they want Kaitlyn and other kids in wheelchairs to be able to play with them too and be happy because they think she is sad that she can’t

These amazing kids presented these letters to the school PAC to ask if they could help them get the accessible equipment.

The PAC obviously being very touched by this agreed to put money towards it but with the cost of an accessible playground being well up into the $40,000.00 range the school obviously does not have enough funds.

Now the kids are coming up with ways to raise money for the playground. They have had some freezie sales and a toss water balloons at the teachers to raise some money.

The determination and the compassion that these students have to raise money so that kids in wheelchairs like my daughter Kaitlyn can play with their peers on the playground is one of the most touching things I have ever encountered. I am starting this Go Fund Me in hopes of helping the students raise enough money for their campaign to bring inclusion into our school and neighbourhood and help them with the dream of inclusion for all kids now and in the future!
