My name is Lawrence Mendoza  and I am 25 years old.

I have Celebral Palsy since I was born and I have been in a wheelchair for most of my life.  As a young child my family tried everything to get me to walk, which was difficult for me and for them as they had to watch my daily struggle. I just couldn't walk so I went into therapy and  even resorted to many surgeries, however, nothing worked.

I had to focus on the positives in my life so after high school I started going to the gym to keep physically fit and then it hit me that I wanted to do more than just work out.  My physical transformation was appearing but the most important transformation was my mind. I wanted to inspire people and give people hope.

My good friend and PT Adrian motivated me to compete so I started bodybuilding last year. I now have been training for 5 years. I knew the competition and competing process would be difficult but I just decided that I had to give it a shot and just do it. The dieting, the constant training and even posing proved difficult and took me outside my comfort zone but I stuck to it.

The whole process is pretty daunting. Weeks and weeks  went by and I was hungry, tired and couldn't sleep at night.  My body ached and I just didn't know if I could continue. My amazing friends and family helped me to get through those bad days and nights.

Before my first show I was on stage with the EHPLABS team and it was an awesome feeling and what was to come. I also met some amazing  athletes even my good friend Robbie Frame. I was so NERVOUS.

I then went on stage and looked for my team and my PT Adrian in the crowd. The amazing team behind me  made me realised that I want to keep on inspiring people and telling them that anything possible if you just try. I have had struggles since I've began this bodybuilding journey. You sacrifice so much, things like going to parties, hanging out with friends and  having to be strict with your eating/diet. There is also  the financial pressure of having to pay for the continual registration costs and the actual  cost of preparing for the competitions which includes tanning, clothing and everything that goes with that. I didn't want to give up and just stretched out my money as much as I could.

A good friend of mine Helen told me about INBA and that's where I met Tim Perry and told him that I would bring everything I have to get involved. I was training at the gym 7 days a week to be the best that I could be. It wasn't easy for both my body and my mind and I stuck at it. I kept training and eating clean and brought my best game at the Newcastle event. It was an amazing experience and got to meet the president Mike Waddington. I was so nervous and my great friend Jimmo was there to help me out.

When I got on the stage, I felt that I was on top of the world.

It was there that Stacey Howard said to me that they wanted me to be part of TEAM AUSTRALIA. I have always wanted to compete in LA for the World Cup and Natural Olympia. I was speechless.... I cried  the most happy tears and accepted right away.

I have now competed in 7 bodybuilding competitions and I just love it. I have found my passion. This sport drives me and helps both my physical wellbeing as well as my mental toughness. This November, I will be competing in Las Vegas and it is a dream come true.

I feel that I am so blessed to have this opportunity to compete in the biggest stage of my bodybuilding career and am so proud to be representing Team Australia. I have found my passion in bodybuilding and helping others feel good about themselves and what they can achieve if they dream big enough.

I want to be able to tell my story to others, to get into schools, inspire and motivate young people, to talk to organisations about the power of a goal and how to work towards achieving small milestones every day, to talk to communities about helping others and dreaming big dreams.

My life-story is not special but it is my story. My life is an open book and I am continuing to write my book and I want to inspire others with my story. Anything is possible if you have a dream, hope and a plan to succeed.

All of my struggles have led me to this pinnacle moment in my career and my life. I need your help to get me there.  I’ve been inspiring people since the early days of my career and this show will enable me to continue to do so into the future.
