Hello,
My name is Inaki Gomez, a trilingual International Baccalaureate student from Markham, Ontario who recently graduated high school with honours. For as long as I can remember I have aspired to become a pediatrician. Growing up in Mexico City as a child, I had personally witnessed horrific tragedies that really impacted me and I vowed that I would create a better future and make a difference in this world when I grow up. When I came to Canada several years ago with my family, I knew that I could only achieve my dream by fully devoting myself to my studies and doing whatever it takes to excel so that I would one day get into a good university. So for the last four years, I poured all my energy and passion into my coursework so that I could graduate with high honours from the very demanding and rigorous IB program.
This past March I was overjoyed when I received an acceptance letter into the Life Science program from McMaster University. However, this feeling of joy was mixed with great sadness as I realized that I would not be eligible to qualify for any student loans to help cover the high tuition fee I must pay as an international student. My family’s immigration application can take over two years to be processed, and somehow, I will need to raise over $15,000 in the next 2-3 months in order to start my program in McMaster. I have no idea how I will be able to do this, which is why I have started this gofundme site to reach out to my community and ask you to consider helping me to overcome this financial challenge I find myself in.
My mom is a single parent who has been working tirelessly to put food on the table and take care of me and my younger sister. I am working at a summer job to try to earn some money to put aside for my tuition. The three of us are on our own with no family in Canada to support us. My family’s challenging situation is my motivation to dream big, do bigger and create a better future for us. I am trying to stay hopeful in the midst of this difficult time, but I am finding it extremely difficult and stressful as I think about the enormous amount of money I will need to raise in a very short time.
I am asking for your support so I do not have to give up on my dreams when it is just within reach. I have worked too hard to give up now. Thank you for your consideration and generosity. I promise that if you are willing to invest in me, I will pay it forward and help others to achieve their dreams one day.
