Wade Gehl was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, neighbor and friend. He loved to make people smile and help those in need whenever possible. It is this kind and generous spirit that led him to become involved in what is now the Danny Berg Memorial Christmas Dinner.
For 27 years, the Danny Berg Memorial Christmas Dinner has opened its doors and offered the Great Fall's community a warm holiday meal. The dinner serves people from all walks of life; airmen stationed away from home, senior citizens, families of need, persons with disabilities with the motto that "no one should have to eat alone for Christmas"... a motto that deeply resonated with Wade.
From the dinner's inception, Wade was a passionate founding volunteer, fundraising and also working on the front lines as a cook, server, and meal deliverer. As Chairman of the organization for the past several years, Wade spent countless hours organizing and promoting the dinner and working to ensure its sustainability. Through his leadership, the efforts of extraordinary volunteers, and the charity of local businesses, the Danny Berg Memorial Christmas Dinner provided 600 dinners to our community last year.
On Sunday, March 29th, Wade passed suddenly from a heart attack at his home. While our hearts are broken grieving this tremendous loss, we are comforted by our memories which often include joking laughter and smiles. We know that Wade would want us to remember the good times, and to continue his legacy of kindness and service to his beloved community.
Please consider giving in Wade's memory to this fund. The total gift will be collected and presented by family to The Danny Berg Memorial Christmas Dinner at a celebration of life service tentatively scheduled for July 25th, 2020.
