In memory of Sirplus - Martin L Walker ❤

Donation protected
Sadly on Monday 30th November 2020, our beautiful soul, Martin Walker, aka Sirplus, unexpectedly passed away in the company of family.

Our lives were shattered on 29th May 2019 and turned upside down when we learned that Martin had attempted suicide and suffered hypoxic brain injury. He made a decision for himself that broke our hearts. The 18 months until now has been a rollercoaster of devastation, pain and hope for us all. Whilst he became wakeful and was able to breathe on his own and we continued to pray for a miracle, he battled through a number of infections and subsequent medical conditions and was later very sadly determined clinically unresponsive and in a permanent vegetative state.

We are all left heartbroken with the loss, however may we find some comfort that Martin is now at peace and will be laid to rest on Monday 21st December 2020.

As it has been said already in many tributes, we genuinely have lost a true gentleman, a king, a Bristol legend, a lyrical genius and musical poet, and a beautiful soul that meant so much to so many people, family and friends, who all loved him very dearly and are left heartbroken by this devastating loss. Whether you knew him personally, or followed his music, he had a powerful impact and touched so many lives; leaving behind a rippling effect of loss felt by many. Each of your memories will have a soundtrack of its own and that is very special; the greatest legacy that anyone can leave behind is to have a positive and heartfelt impact on the lives of others.

Martin was an unbelievably gifted rapper and poet, a loving son, a caring and cherished brother, a besotted father, an amazing uncle, cousin, grandson, and an extremely caring and loyal friend; known to have the biggest smile and even bigger heart - he always offered his support and energy to so many people, lifted others up and made others smile. He was an extremely loving man to his son Marlie and step-daughter Lola that he doted on very much and loved unconditionally; their loving mum; his queen and beautiful mother Pauline; his seven very proud siblings; and an abundance of extended family/chosen family and friends who will cherish his memory forever ❤️

So many people have been very kindly offering their support in many forms and asking how they can contribute at this time, especially to his son Marlie and with Christmas just around the corner. Therefore the aim of this particular GoFund Me page is to support Marlie, his step-daughter Lola and the immediate family during these difficult times (with support, counselling/play therapy etc) and provide some support towards the memorial to ensure that Martin receives the send off he deserves during these highly restricted times. It is absolutely heartbreaking to us all that Marlie is left without his father in his life so depending on how much is raised a significant part is hoped to be used for ongoing support with anything that he needs, that Martin would have provided for (school clothes, books, a break away, education, etc), with some transferred to a trust/bond/savings account for Marlie for the future. For Martin ❤

There will be a planned memorial event in 2021 for everyone, along with a number of tribute nights. Details will follow next year with an opportunity for everyone to be involved to give him the send off that he deserves and the opportunity, for all of you who held him so dearly, to pay your respects as you have so patiently waited to do.

We would also like to donate at least 10% of the proceeds to The Dean Neurological Centre
(Gloucester) where they cared for Martin.
The Dean Neurological Centre provides complex disability management and rehabilitation services and cared for Martin for a significant period of time, offering exceptional support to Martin, Pauline and the family. It is a specialised nursing home and provides 24 hour nursing care and therapy services for adults with complex neurological conditions. It specialises in slow stream rehabilitation where the emphasis is placed on maximising each individual's abilities, comfort and quality of life. We thank all the staff there for the outstanding care that they provided to Martin. We are and will be forever deeply grateful.

Any contribution would be very much appreciated however equally appreciate that these are very tough times for most and you can still contribute in other ways by continuing to share his music, photos, tributes, your stories and memories. Through us all, his memory, legacy and love will live on. If you do donate, please leave a message or memory that you have. We will forever find comfort and warmth reading the kind words and listening to all the tributes and voice notes being shared across social media.

You can support this by organising your own activity too - anything you can think of! If you host any music nights, fitness/charitable events or other fundraisers towards this fund, then please leave as much info about it in the comments when you donate the total raised/funds to this page so we can record your efforts, update and share.

Through this we can come together to collectively create a lasting legacy for Martin, raising awareness towards mental health and suicide prevention. Let us channel the power of the impact of this into fundraising and raising awareness by sharing our story so we can support others experiencing mental health difficulties as well. Every pound we are able to raise will help us create a better future and life for Marlie, pay tribute and create a legacy for Martin and hopefully tip the balance in favour of a world with better mental health.

Didn't know what target to put (originally put £2k) as absolutely anything will be appreciated for Marlie and towards all the causes above to create a last legacy for Martin. The target does not have to be met and equally can be exceeded. This will be an ongoing fundraiser in to next year, likely March/April 2021 to allow everyone the time and opportunity to get creative in honour of Martin.

Marlie will also be able to look back and read about how loved and adored his father was by so many.

Lockdown has made everything even more difficult for us all. Please know that you are all in our hearts and thoughts, and we appreciate that so many of you want to pay your respects in person and we want that for you too; For Martin. Due to the restrictions this is regrettably not feasible at this time (other than a virtual/live stream of the service) so there will be a 2021 memorial service and various other tributes and videos/publications next year (including a documentary style film celebrating the life of Martin, places he loved and those who knew him), to provide an opportunity for everyone to remember and celebrate the man who was extremely special to us all. Please trust that we will reach out nearer the time to ensure everyone the opportunity to get involved, contribute or attend. ❤

Thank you for extending so much love and support to our family. We sincerely cannot express enough gratitude to everyone who has reached out with love, kind words, support, tributes and prayers for him, Marlie and the family. We have been blown away by the tributes and love. The loss and pain is immeasurable but so is the love left behind ❤ and this is where we will find comfort. Together.

We love you with all our hearts Martin xxx
