In Memory of Robyn Hale

Donation protected
Robyn Alexander Hale (affectionately known as “Bob”) was born in Los Angeles, California on May 11, 1953 to the union of Claudia A. Whitworth and the late Robert “Scoot” Hale.

His mother returned to Roanoke, Virginia following Robyn’sbirth. Consequently, Robyn was educated in the Roanoke City School System, where he graduated from William Fleming High School in 1971. After high school he worked odd jobs around Roanoke including working as a bartender, and ultimately as a photographer where he found his passion.

When he was in his mid-twenties, Robyn moved back to Los Angeles, where with his passion for photography, it came as no surprise when he opened Smiles, Inc., a professional photography studio in Hollywood, California. As a result of his quality work, Robyn was the chosen photographer for numerous Los Angeles public and private schools for almost three decades.

Robyn was also popular among the rich and famous and among the Who’s Who in Hollywood where he resided for over 25 years. He also had a great love for jazz music and fine wine. In fact, he had a vast collection of jazz music and would attend the weekly“Jazz at Hollywood and Highland” event on Tuesday nights.

From his marriage to Katrina Crone, one daughter was born and Robyn also became the consummate stepfather to Mimi Coleman, and Tijera and Anthony Chester.

After some recent health challenges, Robyn passed away Sunday, May 5, 2019 at his home in Inglewood, California.

Those left to cherish many fond memories of Robyn include: his daughter, Robbynne Hale (New Orleans, LA); his mother, Claudia A. Whitworth (Roanoke, VA); his former wife, Katrina Hale; three stepchildren: Mimi Coleman, Tijera Chester, and Anthony Chester; his brother, Stanley R. Hale; his sister, Eva Shaw (Demare) Gill (both of Roanoke, VA); three half-siblings, Karen Hale-Lawrence, Cynthia Hale-Halliburton, and Carey Bernard Smith (all of Los Angeles, CA); several nieces, nephews, and a host of other loving relatives, friends, and hundreds of loyal Smiles, Inc. customers.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to be used towards Robyn’s unborn grandchild’s (due September 2019) future schooling.
