It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of Peter Onlock. We knew him to be many things to all of his diverse communities; beloved friend, trusted colleague, incredible teacher, inspiring coach, treasured son and brother, beneficent uncle, deeply caring father and dedicated husband.

Peter passed away suddenly at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 21st, at the young age of 53.

He was a man people instantly loved. How could one not? Peter, with his open smile and subtle wit, cracked open even the hardest shells. He challenged us to be happy and smart, to question and to learn. Peter filled any room he entered with sunshine and laughter ... and what a story teller ... he left you laughing in tears. He made time to talk to people because he deeply cared about who they were and how knowing them expanded his universe. What a way to live life to want to be prouder of all those in our spheres. His students flocked to his classes thoroughly engaged in his captivating lessons, inspiring many to move forward into medicine, education, and research. Peter would have said his wish was that they were foremost simply good human beings and then the best that they could be to change their communities for the better. He instilled in them that we all needed to "make a difference", just as he was doing.

Pete grew up in the West Rouge and attended Sir Oliver Mowat, where he first met Jennifer, the love of his life. They moved to Stouffville to make a life with their two beautiful children, Ella and Nathan. He was an invaluable community member and could often be seen on the fields and arenas around town. He endeared himself to the youth in Stouffville as coach of a number of teams; The North York Blues, the Stouffville Soccer Club, the Stouffville Clippers and the Stouffville Yankees.

We see him as this constant blur moving from one amazing thing to another stopping to insert a funny anecdote and a thoughtful word, constantly active. He cared about his community, his school, his students, his family ... what an abundance of love he had! We will miss him dearly but we know he will be there for us, with us, amongst us in all those spaces we call welcoming, inspiring and loving!

Pete was such a dear, dear friend to me, and I know so many others felt the same way. Nothing can possibly make up for his loss. But perhaps we can help fill the void in the lives of Jen, and their children by surrounding them with our love. The Fund has been created for the purpose of assisting Pete's family.

On behalf of Jen, Ella and Nathan, thank you so much for your love and support, and thank you for all the support that you will continue to provide the family as they go through this most difficult period in their lives.
