In Memory Of Mick

In memory of a fun loving and crazy Dad, partner, family member and friend❤️ Who was sadly taken far too soon. 

My Dad was such a tough, strong willed and amazing man, with no matter what knocked him down, he got back up again. He always told me that, “You start falling to bits after you turn 40,” and he was right, bless him.

After all the illnesses and health scares he had, he was sadly taken by an awful cancer which had spread throughout his body. My Dad was only diagnosed with lung and brain cancer four weeks ago today, after showing no symptoms apart from an aching back and slight confusion. Three weeks ago yesterday, we found out that it had devestatingly spread into his bones and liver. We were given a short life expectancy of 3 months. 

He always joked on (like usual) and said, “Nah, it’ll be three weeks for me man” and he was right, scarily enough My dad sadly passed on Wednesday early morning, whilst in the care of the amazing St Oswalds. He passed in the arms of me (his daughter, Becky) and surrounded by his wonderful Fiancee Kim, and Son-In-Law Jack. 

All the staff at St Oswalds were amazing and had a lot of time for my Dad, and us aswell. They looked after us so well and were full of brightspirits. It felt more like a hotel full of smiles and laughter, rather than a hospice. Also a big shout out to the nurse, Vicky, who went above and beyond for us all (especially with handing Kim lots of Pinot Grigio). So in their honour, we are raising money for them and to make a nice gift basket full of treats too

We also want to raise some money for Cancer Research UK too. When finding out the devastating news in hospital, the doctors and nurses were just as equally shocked as to how large and fast the tumours had developed, especially with my Dad being a younger age. We hope that this donation will help to fund research into this. 

Lastly, we are raising a little bit of money to go towards my Dads ‘wake’. He always said he wanted his wake at the Village Club in Cramlington. However, with the current restrictions, we cant do this. Instead, we have come up with the idea of all meeting up at Blyth Beach after the funeral to have a little memorial celebration. We have decided to buy some small boats and some red tealight candles to set off in the sea as rememberance (red was his favourite colour).
