In memory of Kevin Donovan

We have come together to help a family that has experienced a level of grief, far earlier than should be the case. Kevin William Donovan passed away on 26th August, 2018 and is survived by his partner, Holly, and their two young children, Willow and Barclay (both of whom are under three years of age).

Kevin grew up on a poultry farm in country NSW. It was here that he developed a passion for trucks - and surfing - and skating - and jet-ski’s – you can see where this is going.

He and his mates would go off and spend countless hours driving around looking for waves, only to come back to the local area. In later years they would head off to Bali and other Asian surrounds, surfing and goofing off being 30 and 40 something teenagers.

Over the years he drove locally, and then inter-state, and then bought more trucks. In the end he found that he was better at selling trucks than driving them, and he got to stay at home each night.

In recent times his reputation as a solid salesman, who delivered on his promises and cared deeply for his customers, which put him at the top of his profession. He was admired and respected by everyone he dealt with, even his competition.

Was he perfect? Not by a long shot – but he was a hell of a bloke. The one thing you would say about KD was that he was passionate. Not that yell and scream type (well not if you don’t count his undying loyalty to his beloved “blues’) but a quiet, intense, focused passion. You could see it in his eyes when he was talking about a favoured topic, but most of all you could see it in him when he was talking about his family.

Holly and their kids were his world. He often said that they gave him purpose and I think in that, they grounded him and made him whole. Even when he came to work bleary eyed after a not so peaceful night, he would have a sly smile and with a nod, say he wouldn’t change it for anything.

KD was diagnosed with Cancer in December 2017. Right from the start he didn’t let it get in the way of anything he wanted to do. It wasn’t bury your head in the sand stuff, it was a passionate desire to fight as hard as he could, for as long as he could, whilst still doing everything in his “normal” life.

He continued to come to work, to look after his clients, and when we told him to stay at home he would tell us “mate, man needs to work and provide for his family”, and that’s what he did. Right up the end, even when he was in hospital he would ring the office to make sure that things were progressing as they should.

So, now that he can’t, it is us, his friends, his associates, his colleagues,…… his mates, that need to lend a hand and help.

We are looking to create a fund that will let Holly and the children stay in the family home. The home that has KD all over it – from the Turtle cage, to the slippery slide, to the water tank in the back yard.

We are hoping to create a fund that will allow two little children grow up in an environment that their Daddy created.

They are no longer able to see him every day but they will hopefully be able to remember him by what he left for them.
