<div>On 30th May 2026, my family, friends, and I will be taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in memory of my beautiful husband, John Wright. John was truly one of the good guys—a true legend. He was an incredible husband, dad, uncle, brother and an amazing friend.

</div>
<div>We will be walking to raise money for two charities that are very dear to my heart: The Brain Tumour Charity and Nottinghamshire Hospice.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>John was first diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2012, and from that day on he fiercely fought one hell of a battle for 12 years. This included multiple surgeries, radiotherapy, and stereotactic gamma knife treatment, all so he could stay with us for as long as possible. Sadly, John lost his battle on 24th September 2025, surrounded by his family and friends. He will forever be missed and loved.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I know I am biased, but John really was a genuine, honest, hardworking, and loving man who would help anyone with anything—no questions asked. You can ask anyone who knew him. Despite the brain tumours and the pain he endured, John never let it stop him from doing the things he loved: spending time with family and friends, working, building and fixing things and of course, fishing.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Now it’s our turn to help others—to support vital brain tumour research so that, hopefully, in the not-so-distant future no one has to go through losing a loved one, and to support the incredible Nottinghamshire Hospice, who truly wrapped their arms around us when we needed them most.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks is going to be a challenge for us, and it’s fair to say we are not athletically minded. We know it’s going to hurt, and it’s possible we may not be able to walk properly the following day (or days!). But while we may not be the fittest, what we do have in abundance is determination and passion to complete this challenge and raise as much money as we can to help others—just as John would have done.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>More research is needed for the brain as brain tumours are the biggest killer of children and adults under 40 in the UK. Over 5,400 people lose their lives to brain tumours each year. High grade brain tumours reduce life expectancy by on average 27 years which is the highest of any cancer. Just 13% of adults survive for five years after a high grade brain tumour diagnosis.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The support we received from the Nottinghamshire Hospice charity was unmeasurable. They are the leading charitable provider of palliative and end of life care in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. They offer support where it might seem there is no hope and provide care at times and places thought would not be possible. They recognise it’s a real privilege to be part of the last stage of someone’s life – the last hours and minutes – and their aim is to make them the best they can be for you and all those around you. Nottinghamshire Hospice is alongside you when you need them, they are the experts from the moment you learn that your illness cannot be cured or will not improve and they will help you in all the ways you need with compassion, acceptance, resilience and empathy.
