In Memory of Fredrickson Olsen Family

On July 5, 2020, my family went on an exciting adventure on Lake Coeur d'Alene.  None of them had been on a seaplane and the were so excited.  Unfortunately, they did not come back.  The loss for me and for this community is immeasurable.  They all touched many people in many ways.

My husband, Sean, was the President of the Pacific Northwest PGA Section and the head golf professional at Oswego Lake Country Club and Tualatin Country Club prior to that.  He was so passionate about the game of golf and worked tirelessly for both clubs.  He wanted to provide the best membership experience he could. He knew everyone's name and wanted everyone to feel special.  His work ethic was unmatched. What you may not know is that he was extremely silly and lighthearted.  Always joking around with the kids, putting on Quinn's Blazer jersey (clearly too small for him), wearing Sofia's Lake Oswego Bowling shirt (again, too small). Many of you have seen him put our little Yorkie, Scout (also called "the Bad Egg") on the top of our kitchen cabinets.  He wore Lolo around his neck like a scarf.  In short, he was an incredible man that can never be replaced. He was my fourth child for sure.

My daughter, Sofia, was 15 and just about to get her license.  She had a job at StarCycle and was voted the captain of the JV LAX team this season--not because she was good, but because people thought she was funny (her words). She was the life of the party and always pushing envelopes. I caught her sneaking in and out and found boys in our home at 6 a.m. (you know who you are, boys...) She was not afraid to break rules, that's for sure.  These are the things I will laugh about now.  We almost lost her last year at this exact same time and it's hard to believe we only got one more year.  She knew love and I am so thankful for that. We watched many, many episodes of Say Yes to the Dress and I had already given her her budget.  We talked a lot about college and what she wanted to do with her life.  She vacillated between pediatric nurse and psychologist, but definitely not lawyer despite her ability to argue FOREVER....  I am glad that she wanted to help people and her career choices later in life far surpassed her early choices--cat trainer and mermaid.  I will miss her so much, but know that she had an incredible life here in LO.

What can I say about little Quinn.  Quinn was a bit of a jokester like Sean. He loved to make people laugh and loved to hang out with mom. Every Saturday morning, we started with a movie at about 7 a.m.  Little did he know that this was my way of getting a little more sleep when he was little. He had a heart of gold.  Quinn's real name is Quentin.  When he was about 8, we learned that he had no idea how to spell his name because he went by "Quinn" not Quentin.  He also had great career aspirations. His first choice was car washer--probably because he used to wash the family cars with his dad. We gave him a hard time about this for a very long time. Quinn loved to play Xbox with his friends. Even though he was upstairs at the other end of the house, I could hear him yelling and screaming along with his friends. He will always be my little angel.

Hayden, my step son, was an incredible child. He was 7 when I became "mom 2" and I had the privilege of seeing him grow from little boy to young man.  I took my job as mom 2 very seriously because Hayden's mom, Alix, is simply incredible and I didn't want to let her down. She loved Hayden more than anything and was the best mom that you can imagine.  Hayden was an avid soccer player making the varsity team as a freshman. I really watched Hayden come into his own over the years. Being incredibly smart (4.2 with AP classes), adversity wasn't easy for him because almost everything came easy.  One of my proudest moments for Hayden is when he tried out for the LO Crossfire team. The first two days were tough for him and I could see him hanging his head. But he kept going and kept going even though I know that part of him wanted to give up.  I am so honored to have been in his life. And I  hope that he knew how much I loved him and how proud I was of him.

My family did not die in vein. There has to be a silver lining.  It is up to us as a community to create that silver lining and I am asking every single person in the community and who reads this to be your best self. Be kind. Help people. Honor my children by making LO the best place it can be. Let's make sure there are no hungry children here. Let's make sure that if someone is in need, we will all step up. Let's create the most caring, inclusive community that we can because it's the right thing to do. Please. This is my one wish for my children.

Any funds raised by this campaign are earmarked for a celebration of life. I would like to throw the biggest party that this little town has ever seen to honor my family. We have four angels to celebrate. Beyond that, any remaining funds will be returned to the community in some way, although I can't say exactly how right now. Scholarships, special programs, things of that nature.  I want the LO Girls Lax team to have what they need to reclaim their state title since they were robbed last year.  (I'm still bitter about that!)

We are LO strong. I cannot thank this community enough for nurturing and raising my children. They were happy, they were loved.  Please honor them by making this community the best it can possibly be.

With all my love, respect, and admiration-April Fredrickson.
