In loving memory of our precious father, incredible grandfather, and beloved husband, Domenico Caruso. After a difficult battle against Covid-19, our fighter put his gloves up and passed peacefully. Our family would like to celebrate his life in the way he led his life, by being generous and giving.
As we are not able to have a proper funeral, we wanted to show our appreciation by creating this fundraiser. We would like to extend our gratitude to the staff of doctors, nurses, and attendants at Santa Cabrini Hospital. For years, this hospital has always taken care of our family with extra care. We would always joke that we had a VIP membership at Santa Cabrini, especially during the past few years.
It was really in his last hospitalization and during this time of crisis that the team at Santa Cabrini truly went above and beyond for our family. Risking their own lives, putting in countless hours and selflessly taking care of their patients as if they were their own family. Their empathy, their compassion, and their understanding of the fact that we are all human gave us peace and comfort during this time. They always ensured that we were aware of the medical state of our father and updates were always communicated to us even though we were not able to visit.
We feel blessed that we were given this service and want to simply say thank you.
All funds will go to the Santa Cabrini Foundation.
A Man's legacy
Domenico Caruso was born on June 25, 1939, in Nicastro, Calabria. He immigrated from Italy with his family when he was just 10 years old to Argentina. It was there that he learned and mastered his trade of baking from a young age and met the love of his life at 19 years old, Domenica, a 17-year-old Calabrian immigrant herself.
The two fell head over heels and were married 14 months later on September 24, 1960. Growing their family, they had a son, Daniel born in 1963 and a daughter, Monica (Ian) in 1965. Together, they worked hard and against all odds, immigrated their young family to Canada with the determination to provide a better life for their children and future grandchildren. The couple worked hard for years as they built their new life. Owning a successful bakery business for over 20 years, they created many relationships of which they still cherished today. It was in 1981 that they were blessed with their baby girl, Maria Tania (Nader).
Days turned into years and their family continued to grow. The love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren, Vanessa (Francesco), John-Alexander, Samantha, Anthony-Domenic, Domenic-David, Adriano, Alessia, Sienna, and Milla was something else. He was unlike any other grandfather. He taught them all so many lessons they will all take with them through their journey as they create their own families one day. The importance of family unity, hard work, and respect above all.
Although life without our patriarch is hard to imagine, we carry with us the wonderful memories created throughout the years and feel blessed that we have had him around to witness so many special milestones and moments. We know that he was proud of us all and we will continue to make him proud by continuing his legacy and remaining the united, loving family we have always been.
To the strongest man we know, Rest in Peace. Watch over us all and give us the strength we need as you always have.
