In Memory Of Carmen Alicia Martinez

Today, my family and I ( Jonathan Chavez)  have come together to make this GoFundMe page, asking for help in this difficult time. We need to raise funds for my grandmothers burial expenses. This past year Janet and I had the privilege of being my grandmothers primary caregivers. Both she and I were faced with different challenges; we had a few tough days, as well as good days with her. Nevertheless, we got through all of it together and we wouldn’t have changed a thing. It became a little easier to handle once my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. The diagnosis brought clarity to all the behavior and emotional changes she was facing. Learning as much of the disease as we could was a guide Janet and I used to help my grandmother feel safe and unafraid. Although this disease really changed our world my grandma’s sense of humor and sassy diva attitude helped us all pull through even during the tough times. She constantly shared how much she loved her children and her grandchildren. Even until the end when she could barely open her eyes or had strength for herself she  would look at us all so lovingly and find strength to hold our hands. Sadly, the emotional distress took a toll on her. We witness her life deteriorate quickly once her hip was dislocated and she became bed ridden. We witness days where she would fight and then slowly give up. It was so hard for all of us to witness, but what you may not know about her was that she had a special light in her. She made those tough times better than they should’ve been. She joked, playfully hit me, sang, laughed, and smiled. Sadly my grandmother, Carmen Alicia Martinez, passed away on March 29,2018 at 8:59pm. She went in her sleep pain free. She has reunited with our Lord, her husband, daughter, and loved ones. Her happy and playful spirit is free to fly, no longer suffering on this earth. Heaven just got a little bit sassier.

I am not looking to provide a fancy arrangements, however, I do feel she deserves a proper burial. In all honesty, I cannot afford to provide her with what I feel she deserves, that is why I am here today, humbled and thankful for the support and love neighbors and friends have shown my family and myself.

Grandma you will be dearly missed and our world got a little darker without you. We all love you and even though our hearts hurt without you we’re happy you are no longer in pain. Thank you for all the love and wonderful memories you left us with. Thank you for being a wonderful mom, wife, grandma, and great grandma. Thank you for having your own special bond with us. We love you and will always miss you. Rest in peace my beautiful grandma.
