<div>My name is Uriel, and I am raising funds to honor the life of my beloved mother, Aurélie Nyetam Ngo Mandeng, who passed away on October 19, 2025, after a long and heartbreaking medical battle. It feels unreal to write these words. My mother was the warmest, kindest, and most delightful person anyone could meet. She turned 70 years old this February, but her spirit was forever young.

<div>She had a gift — an effortless charm and a smile that disarmed everyone she met. Friends, neighbors, and even strangers adored her. My mother treated everyone like family, even the “little guy,” as she would say.

<div>She was my best friend, my confidante, my cheerleader, and my number-one supporter. She prayed for me every day, encouraged my dreams, and stood with me through every season of life.

<div>Losing her has left an emptiness that can never truly be filled.

<div><strong> Her Illness &amp; Fight for Life</strong>

<div>On May 13th, my mother suddenly suffered what appeared to be a stroke. At the hospital, a brain scan revealed something far more serious: a large non-cancerous mass embedded in the right side of her frontal lobe. It had grown so much that it was deforming the frontal bone and pressing dangerously on her brain.

<div>Doctors explained that the mass had become ossified and vascularized, making surgery extremely risky. Because she was 70, they warned us that even if she survived surgery, her recovery could take months.


</div>

<div>Yet through all of this, my mother fought bravely.


</div>


<div><br />


</div>


<div>Though paralyzed and confused at first, she remarkably regained her speech within a month. Her resilience amazed us all. Despite the fear and uncertainty, she never lost her sweetness or her strength.


</div>

</div>


<div>We tried everything possible to get her transferred to France for safer treatment. But the hospitals there could not accept a case so expensive, and in Cameroon — a cash-only medical system — we simply could not gather the funds fast enough.

<div>Then on August 20th, she suffered a second stroke. At that moment, all remaining options closed, and we were forced to proceed with surgery in Cameroon.

<div><strong> The 11-Hour Surgery</strong>

</div>


<div>Her operation required an entire team of neurosurgeons due to the delicate work of separating the nerves fused into the hardened mass. The procedure lasted 11 hours — every minute filled with fear and prayer.

<div>Before she entered the operating room, the doctors gave us no guarantees. Because of her age and the complexity of the mass, the risks were extremely high.


</div>

<div>But we surrendered everything into God’s hands.


</div>


<div>We hoped for a miracle.


</div>


<div>We prayed for one.


</div>

<div>The surgery alone cost around $3,000, not including the tests, scans, medications, and blood transfusions required just to prepare her.


</div>

<div>By God’s grace, she survived the procedure.


</div>

<div><strong> ICU, Induced Coma &amp; Complications</strong>


</div>

<div>After surgery, my mother was placed into an induced coma to reduce swelling and prevent convulsions. She remained in that state for two weeks as doctors monitored every vital sign.


</div>

</div>


<div>Then complications emerged. She developed a pulmonary infection — a dangerous condition in her fragile state. She was rushed back to the operating room for a tracheotomy to help push oxygen into her lungs.


</div>

<div>During these difficult days, my daughters and I recorded audio messages — prayers, words of encouragement, reminders of how deeply we loved her. My sisters played these recordings by her ear every day, hoping she would feel our presence.


</div>

<div>Those moments — gathered with my girls, praying for her recovery — are memories I will hold close for the rest of my life.


</div>

<div>Sadly, many of our fears about the medical system proved true. The neurosurgeon was often unavailable, updates were inconsistent, and the frequency of ICU checks was unclear. My sisters took turns spending nights at her bedside, because so much of her care fell on us, not the hospital.

<div>Their devotion is something I will never forget.

<div><strong> Her Passing</strong>

<div>On October 17th, the tracheotomy was successful, and the next morning my sisters saw something that renewed our hope: the nurses said she smiled while listening to our voice recordings.

<div>For the first time in weeks, we believed she was fighting her way back.


</div>

</div>


<div>I was already planning to bring in a physical therapist the following week.


</div>

<div>But on October 19th, everything collapsed.


</div>

<div>At 6:39 a.m., my sister was allowed into her room. She immediately realized something was wrong — my mother’s eyes were wide open, her color pale.

<div>She ran for the nurse.


</div>


<div>They attempted to resuscitate her.


</div>


<div>But it was too late.


</div>

<div>Based on her condition, we were told she had likely passed several hours earlier, unnoticed, without any alarm from the monitoring devices.

<div>She survived an 11-hour brain surgery… only to pass away alone in a room where she was supposed to be monitored constantly.

<div>The pain of losing her this way is something my family and I will carry forever.
