Losing Mum
5 and a half years ago my mum died from of a brain tumour. When she was first diagnosed, it came as a huge shock to us all. She had a few minor symptoms that were put down to other things, but it was growing at such a fast rate, by the time the tumour was discovered, it was inoperable and untreatable.

It was confusing and shocking to us all because Mum, out of a lot of people we know, was always one of the healthiest and fittest - she was a vegetarian, didn't smoke, was super active (pilates, swimming, jazzercise, hiking holidays, running a half marathon, trekking mountains in Nepal), inspired others to be active, and was always the carer of other people (not the one having to be cared for). Mum had just retired and was just 61 years old.

The Cause
Brain tumours are notoriously difficult to diagnose because there are many different types and the symptoms are symptomatic of other illnesses. Despite the amount of types of brain tumours and their devastating prognosis, they don't receive as much funding or attention - there have been a relatively small amount of approved drugs for them in the past 30 years.

Brain Tumour Research aims to change the level of research for brain tumours on a quest to find a cure.

I'm running 3 marathons in 7 months - Chicago, NYC and London!
I've been running for a few years now and it's become a great therapeutic outlet.  I often think of Mum when I'm struggling in a run and that the pain can't be anything like she suffered, and that I need to get on with it and stop being such a wimp.

It seems fitting right now (and about time really!) that I started putting my running efforts to a positive outcome.

I'm going to be running the Chicago Marathon Oct 7th 2018, the New York Marathon Nov 3rd 2018 and the London Marathon 28th April 2019. Yikes, the most I've ever done in such a short space of time! As part of that I'd love to raise some money for Brain Tumour Research - a wonderful cause that is close to my heart.
