<div>For decades, Ana inspired and shaped the lives of countless students, colleagues, and community members and has worn many hats: professor, boards member, CFO, and universities Vice President. Known for her unwavering dedication, innovative teaching methods, and compassionate mentorship, she was more than just a teacher and administrator – she was a beacon of hope, a source of encouragement, and a catalyst for change in our community. For over 30 years, Ana Karaman has been a pillar of excellence and innovation in the world of academia, efficiency and productivity in administration, and personal work-life balance. As a faculty and administrator at multiple institutions she has touched the lives of thousands of students, inspiring them to pursue knowledge with passion and curiosity, while mentoring countless colleagues and leaving a permanent mark on the higher education community. She has led transformative initiatives, overseen the success of countless students, faculty, and staff, and driven innovative administration and education—all while inspiring those around her to seek balance in their own lives. <div><strong>The Visionary Educator and Administrator</strong>
</div>
<div>Whether mentoring young faculty on how to manage the pressures of academia or encouraging students to nurture their passions alongside their studies, Ana has made it her mission to foster environments where both professional and personal success can flourish. She has been known to share her own strategies for maintaining balance, from setting boundaries around family time to embracing mindfulness practices that enhance productivity and creativity. Ana's philosophy is simple but powerful: "We are better leaders, educators, and scholars when we are whole." It is a vision that has left a lasting impact not only on the institutions she has served but also on the countless individuals whose lives she has touched. Her influence extends far beyond the classroom, helping to shift the culture of higher education to one that values well-being as a key to long-term success.
</div>
<div>Students not only were learning criminal justice, political science, statistics, finances, or comparative law in her classrooms, but she also experienced innovative teaching while faculty and staff were exposed to administrative methods that pushed the boundaries of traditional higher education beyond institutional walls. Through her groundbreaking research, teaching, and administration, pioneering curricula, and unwavering dedication to mentorship, she has helped shape the next generation of scholars, thinkers, and leaders. Her work did not stop in the classroom or office. As a thought leader, Ana has published influential papers helping to shape US international and domestic policies, contributed to books to improve international security and coalition formation, and led initiatives that improved access to higher education for underrepresented groups. Ana’s commitment to the academic growth and professional excellence of others extended far beyond the work description scope. She was a mentor to staff and faculty, a guide to research fellows, and a leader in national educational initiatives.

<div>Many of us remember moments when a single conversation with Ana shifted the trajectory of our lives. Whether it was through an encouraging word, an insightful lecture, or just her steadfast belief in someone's potential, Ana left a unique mark in our hearts and on our minds.
