In loving memory of Alison Graham

In loving memory of Alison Mary Graham, who was taken far too early from us all by Motor Neurone Disease.

Alison was one of those loving, warm spirits whose memory will live on in every one of the lives she touched during her time on earth. As a lasting legacy, we would like to honour her memory by ensuring that Motor Neurone Disease Research Australia has the funds to search for a treatment and a cure for this devastating disease.

My first encounter with my sister-in-law, Alison, was in Mount Isa, when I was at a funeral home after the death of my friend.  She was there as she always was supporting those she loved in difficult times and although I didn't know who she was, she wrapped me in her arms comforting me while I sobbed that I didn't understand what was happening. And throughout the last 14 years my admiration of her strength, kindness and the absolute love she showed to her family and friends only grew deeper with time and shared experiences.
She welcomed me unreservedly into the family when Richard and I married and I feel so blessed that for 6 years we were able to live nearby. When we first moved to Mackay, Alison & Ray generously took us into their home while we searched for our own. It is then I got to know her better as we shared our experiences of the past and the day to day worries and concerns for the future. I could see how fiercely she cherished everyone in her life. Alison demonstrated in every interaction with her children, how a good mother should be and when my first son was born I was determined that they would know the same love that Alison showed to her children. She was the first person to visit when our first son was born and then looked after him through the night when our second son came into the world a few years later. And despite us having moved 1000km away, 4 years later, without asking she ensured the end of her Darwin trip coincided with again being by our side, caring for our children, while we welcomed our third son.
Her smile.... her deep belly laugh.....that look she would get in her eye when she thought anyone was hurting her loved ones.....those are the memories I will take with me going forward.

We are determined that something will come out of Alison's death..... that the horrible, nasty disease that took her life way too early will eventually be conquered. The only way to do this, is to look for a cure and research is the way to do this. Every dollar donated in memory of Alison will go to Motor Neurone Disease Research Australia, so that a treatment can be found so that another family does not have to lose their loved one in this way.

In loving memory of Alison Mary Graham  7th June 1953 to 14th October 2020.
